Canberra Machine Rolls on

They are a machine, They roll forward better than anyone in the comp. Their Forwards are educated footballers, who know what they are doing.

If the WHOLE Defensive does not move up, they exploit it with little offloads, and they bring up your outside men, and get them interested. If you miss the tackle your in trouble, as your constantly under pressure.

When our Line moved up quick, they ran back into the middle of the ruck with their Quick Big men in Wiki and Bugarelli causing lots of havoc there. Woolford as much as people hate him, was a constant menace. he runs to the line, and acts like a halfback in turning the ball either inside or outside, to the right player. He was the Orchestrator of that win. The Players running off him were just servants. And those servants are lick machines.
Davico, O'Hara, Wiki, Bugarelli All made valuable yards, thru a coaching system that works, and works extremely well.

They do lack Strike power out wide, and had Drew played, we would have never got into that game.

The only way we were going to beat them was by Quick play the balls, and a faster game in attack. Ryles, Sims had to have played for any forward dominance.

Our attacking players kept us in that game, and the speed in which we played the back half.

Our attack was too flat, to combat their defensive speed off their line They were too good for us today. in This department.

When we got a little deeper and got a little wider in the 2nd half, we got into the game. We got off our line quicker and put pressure on the Raiders.

Just mistakes cost us a vital times, and our last tackle options were poor today. But they will improve on that, and they did fix in the 2nd half the problems that were occuring in the First half.

If Brown keeps fixing the problems and gets the players to execute better, then we will be better for it. I hope nathan noticed that we need to be Deeper and Wider, and we must use our guys out wide.

I had a look at the bench today, and could hardly see more than 1 player on the bench from the 30 minute mark. They were all in the shed with Niggling problems i feel.

Long when on was great, as was Kite, and our best player was Dean Young.

Hornby , blacklock, Cooper and Gasnier were unsigthed today, and we need these guys to pitch in and help out the forwards.

Barrett for the first time in a long time started to look like a five eight again.

Bailey, outstanding. again.

In the PL, Number 15 ?.. Prop, was also outstanding, Palu was also very good even though he made a couple of mistakes. he continually gets his arms free, and I think this guy will play First grade in the near Future.

Creagh and Head were outstanding and Howell played well.

Michael Howell Has to play first Grade. He is too good for the reserves. As is Gorrell..

An upseting game first up, and we are better than that.

Classy, thanks for the praise.

I think the thing is that our gameplan constantly frustrates sides into mistakes. We don't play a fancy brand of footy and we don't give up too many points, which usually entices most teams into throwing the ball around, bringing about their undoing. You'll improve, and remember it was only the first game of the year.

Bloody boring to watch, but bloody effective

Raiders are a tough outfit who dominated the ruck and won the match

Damn when Woolford said the Raiders were going to play boring, frustrating footy, he didn't lie did he? Very effective, but I'm glad I'm not paying my hard earned to watch 'em every week.
I think the Raiders will go far this year with their rolling attack, niggling, and milking. I think Woolford could get into some serious shite whinging at the ref every time the call goes against them.

Wiki was immense for the Raiders yesterday. Saints had no answer for him...

I won't say we were outclassed because Saints do havea side with class, but it;s how they are using the top 3 inches, ie: their brains. They hardly knew what to do with the ball in attack. Any attacking move felt like it was more good luck than good management.

I'm still pretty pissed off but you can't take anything away from Canberra - if they can play to that pattern for the rest of the year, not many sides will beat them.

Saints have still left a lot of questions unanswered

I don't know guys... I kind of agree with you, I guess we are the self proclaimed most boring footy team out there... but I like to see tough physical forward clashes, that entertains me just as much as a line break or a backline movement. But with McLinden and Schifcofske creating things out of nothing, we can break the line when we need to. But hey, I don't complain, we may be boring, but I couldn't care less as long as we win.

Best of luck for the rest of the season.

And to you, I truly believe Matt Elliott has stumbled onto a good plan.

"If you want entertainment, go to the circus"...

I don't begrudge Canberra playing that way to get the 2 points.

If Brown's men just grafted away like Canberra did, they could've won that match.

To be honest it might just be because I get excited just by seeing something green, let alone the raiders, but I find Canberra to be a good attacking team. I mean Schifcofske, woolford and McLinden are all great entertainment.

On your guys front, I think that Young fella has a future, I know nothing about him but I know that he was probably the most dangerous forward you guys had yesterday

We had a game plan, and we stuck to it...well for most of the game. But i don't find our style boring, we won..whats so boring about a win? I'm sure if it was saints with that style and they had a win, u wouldnt call it boring?

The style that we play is different to the way most other sides play. We do throw it around a lot more at home, but if you are going to go to a place like Kogarah and get the points you do need to play no noncense footy and even then we were rather lucky.

Matt Elliot has perfected this type of footy that's how he won the ESL with Bradford. If it is good enough to win an NRL title only time will tell.

My biggest fear is that this forwards style of game is going to take it's toll throughout the year. Injuries are going to play a big role in how we go this year. We do have the reserve forwards that can step up and it should be interesting to watch.

I think the 'boring' tag is self inflicted and it's more to do with the club the current Raiders play for than anything else.

Canberra used to be the most exciting attacking team in rugby league, and that is a memory that should stick in the mind of any serious footy fan. They had a star studded lineup that could tear teams apart with attacking wizardry.

Not so any more, and Matt Elliott is to be commended on realising what works best.

Canberra of the current day aren't so much boring as they are less potent than their predecessors. The memories are what gives this current team the 'boring' tag, not simply because they are boring.
