Can't access a particular website

Having troubles accessing a University-related page from my Home computer and am running out of ideas how to fix it...

- I can access the website on other computers and nobody else seems to be having this issue, but cannot access it on other web browsers on my computer
- I have tried: restarting/resetting the modem, clearing cache, cookies & temporary internet files, and a few other small things based on google searches
- From what I can tell, my firewall isn't blocking the website.
- The website initially loads fine but comes up with an "unable to connect" message when I try to log in.

I've sent in a ticket/request to the University IT Service but they usually only bother with on-campus issues so figured I'd ask for more suggestions here.

Any ideas?

check /etc/hosts

if that looks all right try ping and/or a DNS lookup

also try and ping your DNS server or gateway

you could also telnet directly to the IP address and port that you are trying to connect to

Nationwide outage to external sites due to a Telstra balls-up.

Should be remedied now.

This was posted well before the outage Mis, I think this is an isolated problem he's having

I tried the etc/hosts & also the DNS lookup earlier and it hasn't resolved the issue

don't think i've tried the latter two yet but will shortly, cheers.

yeah separate issue that happened while I was trying to solve this one, thought I'd f**ked something up further

FTR, it's been like this for a week or two - the site works fine initially but when I log in it says "unable to connect".
