for stadiums like homebush etc (ones outside of the city), why arent people encouraged/allowed to drive?

went down to adelaide a few weeks ago and saw an afl game and before the match it was like a big party in the car park. people having bbq's, socialising etc.

ive been to numerous nfl games in america and its the same deal. 'tailgating' they call it

i know id much prefer to drive to a match, and im sure a lot of people would rather drive out to homebush then have to catch a long train ride there and brack

I can't speak for other clubs, I only live down the road but I never drive to Parra stadium. It's all street parking and sometimes you have to drive around for 15 minutes to find a spot.. then walk another 10 minutes to get to the stadium. It's quicker to for me to get the bus. Then when the game is over, you're stuck in a gridlock for ages just to get back on the main road.

I'll be catching the train out to the Penrith for the game on saturday for the same reason. Driving is just so messy.

So to answer your question, I don't think suburban grounds can cope with high level of cars and traffic. As poor as Sydney's public transport system is, I'd prefer it to driving for footy games.

Parking at Homebush is absolute sh!t. It's fine going in, you keep going up until you find a spot, then you go down stairs and pay for what you know will be maximum time and off you go to the footy to watch from a 1/4 full dungheap.
Then you've got to try and get out of the carpark !!!!!
Go up to the pub and try again in 2 hours, it's f**ken gridlock!!!!

Park across from DFO and walk 10 minutes. Beats sat in the car park. Not to mention the privilege for the car park is now $20 ... all to watch the team play in a quarter full (of that) concrete sh*thole

If teams want to increase membership it might be an idea to offer free or discounted parking for gold members, etc. Especially for teams who play out of Homebush.

As for parking at Leichhardt, park in Haberfield, close to the water and just walk across.

Try to drive out after parking at Parramatta Westfields for a game at Parra on a Sunday afternoon. That's gridlock. Westies pretty much live there.

Why on earth would you park in Westfields for a Sunday afternoon match? Parra Park, plenty of parking.

First time going to Parra Stadium. Familiar with Westfields and Peter Wynn's Score, thats about it. Parking and transport options should be better communicated to fans.

We have Panthers across the road - the car park is bigger than the club itself, so you should have no dramas... it's just getting out that's a bitch.

The only ground I ever drive to is Parra Stadium. Even then I'd prefer to sit on a bus for half an hour rather than a 15 minute drive because you know it's going to be a sh*tfight to get out. ANZ Stadium I'd rather stand up on a train crammed against randoms than have to put up with the crap that is that car park, you know you'll be there for an hour afterwards. Even the SFS is poor. Tri nations final, the crowd was an apparent "Absolute Disgrace" and it still took 40 minutes to get out of the car park. From there it only took 40 more to get home.

I've never spent more than about 10 minutes in the ANZ Stadium car park trying to get out. More often than not I don't even have to stop at all.

You just have to get out of the ground relatively quickly.
