Carney and Ryles pumped for NRL returns
Tuesday, 9 March 2010
They have had vastly different build ups to season 2010 but the Sydney Roosters two biggest recruits are equally eager for Sunday's match.

Todd Carney and Jason Ryles have been named in Brian Smiths run-on side for the traditional round 1 blockbuster against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Watch Smith announce the revised squad here on Roosters TV with an important reminder at the end.
Carney will run out at ANZ Stadium for his first top grade appearance since 2008 when his Canberra Raiders side defeated his new club in the nations capital.
The 23-year-old's 18 month journey from NRL exile has been tough but if trial form is anything to go by so is he.
Carney has lost nothing, even with a positional change from the halves to fullback, notching consecutive 16 point hauls in two impressive trial performances.
"I'm pretty excited to get out there and play," Carney said.
"I think I've achieved everything I wanted out of the off season with the new position and I just want to hold onto that now.
"I'm feeling fit after the off season and I'm pumped to be starting for round 1," he said.
Carney's excitement to be back at the top is genuine but he admits as kick off nears that will start to change pretty quickly.
"Anxious and nervous I guess," he said.
"I got through both the trials reasonably well but this is the business end beginning now, where two points are up for grabs.
"Theres parts of my game I still need to improve on and that will come together each week hopefully but overall Im excited to make my return," Carney said.
Ryles had a different journey that led him to a renaissance in Australia's premier competition.
The 31-year-old left the South of France after he put a call out to Smith, expressing his interest in getting back home.
The former St George Illawarra Dragon prop played his last regular season game against the Roosters like Carney, but his road back since arriving has been stark in comparison.
"It's been frustrating only having limited time with the team over the preseason but I've done plenty of them in my time," Ryles said
"I feel I've done enough though and so does Smithy obviously, otherwise he wouldn't have selected me in his side.
"For me it's more about being smarter in my preparation for games and the coaching staff recognises this, that's why each player has different training requirements," he said.
Ryles training was interrupted with a quad strain but it his experience that will be most valuable come kick off.
"Yeah I have few more games over the other boys in our forward pack," the 156-game veteran forward quipped.
"It's my job to lead and give the halves that platform to play off. If we can do that and match them early I think we are more than a chance.
"The work our coaching staff has done in getting everyone up for this game and season has been tremendous. If we can survive an early onslaught we will have fitter legs at the back end of the match," Ryles predicts.
The pairs' journey back to the NRL will culminate on Sunday come 3:00pm when one leads from the front and the other from the back.
Carney will become the 1097 player to pull on the Tricolours, whilst Ryles becomes 1099 after Phil Graham, who makes his club debut in the centres.
