Castleford Tigers 72 Hull Dockers 10
Attendance: 3,331
Highlights:
-Once again some good attacking play, orchestrated by Handforth and Kain.
-More young players given their chance-such as Stuart Kain, Anthony England, Michael Knowles and erm...Dean Sampson
-Great to see Dean Sampson playing once again. There will be some who argue we should have given another academy player a game, but I think the young players who did play today will have benefited from 'Deano's' experience.
Lowlights:
-Our defence and concentration was poor, especially at the start of both halfs. No disrespect to Hull Dockers, but we shouldn't be conceding 10 points to an amateur team.
BOOM of the match: Dean Sampsons tackle soon after he came on. I myself didn't see the incident (I'm told it was a perfectly fair tackle), but I certainly saw the aftermath.
Referee Rating: Jamie Leahy 8. As ever, there will be some people who think Castleford were on the end of some strange decisions, but I felt in the first half he kept the game flowing. Towards the end of the match however, it seemed he was losing control.
How many Cas Fans? 3,250-3,275. Excellent turnout, almost more than a few Super League crowds this weekend.
How were the Cas Fans? Quite noisy I felt, particularly enjoying Deano's comeback.
Comedy Moment: Frank Watene's try celebration. Very strange.
My MOTM: Damien Reed had an exceptional game scoring a hat trick, as did Kain, Handforth and Frank Watene. Stuart 'Little' Kain also had a good game at fullback on his debut. Overall, I feel Hepworth just had that little bit extra, and as well as scoring a hat trick, he created a few chances as well.
In a nutshell: No-one expected anything less than a Tigers victory and apart from one or two lapses in concentration, it was mainly a strong performance. The players will have to improve somewhat (especially in defence) as we travel to York for what should be a much closer match in front of a near capacity crowd.
