Bears in NSW cup

You aren't going to get enough that can get the time off work to go to the other side of the country for blocks of the year.

Most of Perth's depth needs to be working over there. That takes time to setup

That is before you add in the on field issues for those who are NSW Cup depth guys

The flying time is double

@Centy Coast will be able to advise how many games that Bears had no Storm players. As far also I can remember Bears never had any guys go to train with Storm during the season

Souths don't send guys to Townsville. Certainly Townsville guys aren't training in Sydney during the season.

Guys will sign with Perth but they will take longer deals and have wives with jobs that can transfer like Nurses. Not for short term deals and that why they need atleast 2 years to get setup

None of the Bears own players went down during the regular season, they did pre-season though.
Backrower Ben Talty is down there atm.
Last season halfback/hooker Jesse Marschke trained with the Storm as did fullback Jake Toby, I can’t remember who else, only about three/four players.
Jesse ended up signing with the Dragons but he is back this season.
Our 2nd round game against Newcastle the Bears had no contracted Storm players as the Storm had rested all of their main players against the Broncos in the final NRL round.
The Storm were guaranteed Minor Premiers, while the Bears had lost virtually five on the trot.
The Bears won the match but it shows NSW Cup means nothing to them, same with the NSW Cup Finals when Storm players just walked into the Squad over players who had played over 22 regular season games.
Were those Storm players better quality?, not a chance.
Now the Bears have had players who played over 120 games between them last season leave the club, that’s footy I guess.

Interesting that dolphins had Qld cup team, Perth has bears in NSW cup, while hunters also play at that level. Maybe Christchurch should be added to NSW cup first?!

I follow NSW Cup and that is how I saw it from afar.

I think the NSW link will be a huge benefit. Perth locals on develop deal will become better players doing that in NSW Cup as opposed to staying in the local comp

But when injuries hit and the club is getting to the dregs of the squad. Some tradie playing NSW Cup part time isn't going across to temp fill the squad.

So the club needs time to get guys at that level relocated across

Any thoughts on a different training location rather than Ken Allen Field.

IMO North Beach Sea Eagles near Scarbs would be far more enjoyable and scenic location to train.

I know it's very far fetched but Cottesloe Oval would another sensational place - will never happen, I know.

To truly be a Perth team though, would be great to see them set up somewhere in the inner city. Perhaps just kick out the Perth Soccer Club near Dorrien Gardens in Hyde Park. It's very close to HBF and right on the cities door step.

If PVL and the comission are smart, and have any taste, they'll push for a seperate league facility someone on the inner city that really feels like Perth, close to the river, the tree lined streets, the cafes, the vibe, and more central to the fan base too.

On a different topic, what's with the Govt planning to build the broader sports facility at Malaga? Let's be honest, Malaga's desolate and lacks any charm. I wouldn't feel too proud driving the family who visit from the east there to show them the Bears home base.

Thoughts?
