Great result for the dragons, hope plenty of neutral fans get themselves to Wembley or it could look a bit empty.
The CC final needs to move away from Wembley and shame wasn't a clause to play it in France if Dragons get to the finals in which they have.

The Challenge Cup final doesn't "need to move away from Wembley" because we can't fill it at this time. It needs to stay with Wembley and become an event that can sell out Wembley regularly. What's the average last 10 years at Wembley and what stadium witho a larger capacity than that is the supposed magic fix?

Last 3 year average - 74,967
Last 5 year average - 76,197
Average at New Wembley (11years) - 78,863
Last final crowd below 60,000 - 1946

So after Wembley what are the high capacity options?
  • Twickenham, 82k - Nope for obvious reasons
  • Old Trafford 75k - Capacity below recent average and would take away from SL grand final, if MU even allow it.
  • Millennium Stadium 74k - Below recent averages again, wouldn't have any extra appeal over London/Wembley.
  • London Stadium 66k - Well below recent averages
After that you have a lot of 50-60k options, but in summary, no thanks.

I believe old Trafford has a reduced capacity for grand finals due to the need for big screens to be installed. So its well below averages.

Saw a post on FB the last time Catalan played a CC Final the crowd was 84,000.

That's cos it was the first final at the new wembley..

And if the challenge cup final moves from wembley it'll die in a matter of years..

The key to keeping final attendances up over 80,000+ is to drastically change the format of the cup...split it into 3 comps with 3 finals on "finals day at wembley"

Challenge cup for SL teams
Challenge shield for championship teams
Challenge bowl for league 1 & amateurs

Two extra finals and 4 extra fans of teams to sell tickets too...

Imagine oldham v Bradford & Halifax v Fev...that's 15k tickets.

The challenge cup final has always been RL big day out, you'll see every club Jersey represented....it's high time we gave those fans a couple of extra games to support.

Challenge cup with only SL sides would kind of kill the entire concept in my opinion, unless the SL went to a straight forward league system with no finals.

What the league got to do with it?

Well you’re the one who suggested bringing the league’s in to it. If you’re just going to have SL teams competing for the CC it’s essentially just a 12 team finals run why would that be interesting when we already have a finals series.
The challenge cup is good because everyone gets to play.

The CC should be sold out but it looks shit especially with the middle tier being empty as the members don't turn up for the northern game.

No..you suggest changing the format of super league to accommodate a super league only challenge cup...why??

And you are aware I said championship teams play for the challenge shield & league 1 & amateur play in the challenge bowl aren't you???

Everyone is playing and everyone gets a very decent chance of playing at wembley in a final!

As a oldham fan,and I'd like to think I speak for the majority of lower league fans...would you rather go out to Warrington in the 6th round getting tanked by 70 like we did 2 years ago....or walk out wembley for a challenge bowl final.....it's a very easy decision...trust me lol

Yeah I’m aware you suggested playing the same teams you play all season again but with a chance of playing at Wembley in a cup, shield, bowl with little meaning.
Football still manage to have the FA trophy and have the same teams play in the FA Cup. Not many football fans would want to give up playing in the FA Cup I don’t think this would be any different.

You can still have a Challenge Shield or Bowl without splitting up the sides. For example the losers from Rounds 1, 2 & 3 go into the Bowl draw, and the losers from Rounds 4 & 5 go into the Shield draw.

Yep to this ^^^, and I'd have added stakes, that perhaps the winners of the Bowl and Shield get a better seeding or automatic advancement to a later round.
