I think I saw her nominated for a 2000m race on Cup Day...

I didn't want to go as far to say that it has a similar look to MD but geez when you look at the form and the rise through classes, this one could be another star...

Keep it quiet though so we get the odds early

the comparison with the diva is just that at this time of year, the diva was winning through the classes and then came out and won the queen elizabeth. she won 6 in a row or something

the next year she wins the melb. cup

Yep agreed. I just didn't want to say it

Matras ran 4th in a maiden at her first start and was then spelled for 463 days. Came out and ran second in a maiden before winning a maided race at Sale by 3.5len over 1400m. She then won a fillies 1 metro win race before 3 months off.

All 4 races this prep have been wins - 1400m (mares), 1300m (class6), 1600m (mares) and finally the Group 3 mares win on Cox Plate Day.

Makybe also ran 4th in her first start in a maiden. She stepped up to 1600m in her second start and won going oon a run of 6 wins in a row, class 1 though to a group 2. Went for a spell for 118 days. Had 2 starts (8th and 6th) before another 119 day spell. Then it was the prep that she ran 4 4ths in a row before winning the Melbourne Cup.

So you can draw a comparison through there with an early run of 6 wins in a row and going through the grades. Matras hasn't really gone through them, she has stepped straight up to the top end whereas MD raced in a class 1 and 3 on the way.

Matras as a 5 year old mare, look out.

Well bugger me, I can stop them!

Matras goes amiss

Potential Group One mare, Matras has suffered a stress fracture and is out for the remainder of the spring carnival.

Matras pulled up scratchy after her win on Saturday in the G3 Inglis Mile over 1600m at Moonee Valley.

The horse was taken to the Weribee Veterinary Clinic yesterday and she was discovered to have a stress fracture in the tibia bone on a hindquarter.
The injury will put Matras on the sidelines for three to four months.
After being defeated at her first two starts Matras has since turned it all around winning her last six starts.

Will have to wait and see how it goes in the autumn when it is back in work. Would have been the case anyway from a cups point of view, just hope the injury doesn't have an effect on its future career.

andrew bensley said yesterday on 2ky that matras wouldn't race in the autumn. he said qld winter carnival was the target. the horse can't do any work for 2 months or so which would rule out a proper preparation
