Cayless upset about us bagging Hayne

You forgot one or two of his mates....... I can understand the criticism but even Moimoi was sh*t for the first half against Canberra. Our go forward outside of two players has been sh*t for the whole three weeks really - without Mateo or Grothe we'd really have struggled.

He still had a better game imo the CAPTIAN WHO IS ON $400000 A SEASON!!! What do you not get from that simple fact? He CANNOT be compared to most other players in the team. He MUST be consistently one of the top 3 players in the team. He is far from that in my opinion. He needs to prove himself and justify his massive pay, hiding him behind the ordinary performance of the rest of the team does not cut it.

Reports are the booing was not at Hayne but at a penalty, however if people were booing Hayne then Cayless' comments are completely justifed. It's poor form to boo your own players when they're trying their guts out.

What about at times where hes not trying his guts out? Like the end of last season?

You'll deadset pop a blood vessel......

He does need to prove himself in regards to on field play, there isn't a dispute with that. As players of first grade quality then every one of the seventeen picked should do the same. As for him not being able to be compared to most of the others in the team? It is exactly how he should be compared - if he isn't doing his job along with any of the other 16 he should be dropped. Just because he carries the c beside his name doesn't mean he should be making 60 tackles and 200 metres a game.....

Funnily enough the biggest criticism I have had of him in recent years has been his his captaincy, this has actually improved a little..... evidenced by the article in the SMH re: the NRL drinking policy, his willingness to talk more behind the posts and his sticking up for Hayne however misplaced it is.

Think he's being a bit precious... or totally misunderstanding the situation.

Refs seemed determined not to give us any penalties, so crowd was calling for it. Crowd boos ref while Hayne happens to have the ball at playmaker and does nothing with it... a Cayless over-reaction :?

exactly!!

Cayless is due for a good game, he has every 4-5 games and not long til the Anzac test so a good game to secure selection.
Remember Dale Shearer and Bobby Lindner? played ordinary for thier clubs til origin selection and had a ripper to get picked and played out of thier skins for origin and Australia then back to average players after the rep games.

Reigning World Cup winning captain. He's a shoe in already. Probably one of the first players picked at that.

Seems to be a tide of opinion against our captain atm.

So I ask.............

Who'd be against a decision if our club made a business judgement and let him go at the end of the year?

I'll start.

1. Not me.

I would be very disappointed.

You only have to look at the loss of Beaver Menzies from Manly to see what a difference losing such a senior player makes both on and off the field.

How do you know? I'm talking about his personal influence and leadership towards his younger teammates on and off the field and only the coach and players would be aware of how valuable he is as an individual not just a front rower.

The biggest thing would be finding a replacement as captain..... my choice would be Matt Keating, but there isn't a stand out choice in the team other than Hindmarsh and he has said often enough that it isn't a role he cherishes on a regular basis. Not so much the on field captain but moreso off the field there would be big shoes to fill as many of the Polynesian youngsters talk very highly of him.

That said I wouldn't be upset if he was to see the final year of his contract out in England. We'd need to make sure we found a player of similar experience though to fill the hole.

From an outside perspective no..... but Eels Dude makes a rather valid point as many of the younger players look up to him.....
