Celtic fined, Dida banned!

Celtic have been fined £25,000 following the incident between Dida and a home supporter at last week's UEFA Champions League game, while the Milan goalkeeper has been banned for two matches

A Celtic fan ran onto the pitch following the conclusion of the dramatic game at Parkhead and tapped the Brazilian on the face.

Dida gave chase for a few yards before falling to the ground, and he was later stretchered off clutching an ice pack.

There was some speculation that Celtic could face a points penalty or be forced to play upcoming games behind closed doors.

However, the Scottish champions have escaped without serious punishment following a meeting of Uefa's control and disciplinary body.

They have been made to pay £25,000 for failing to keep the fan off the pitch, but will be relieved to keep the three points they earned from the 2-1 victory that night.

Uefa has been harsher on Dida, with the keeper now unavailable for Milan's home and away games against Shakhtar Donetsk in Champions League Group D.

Milan will have the opportunity to appeal Dida's suspension.

for celtic they will be able to pay that off with no probs but for dida, he got exactly wat he deserves.

He went down, faking a serious injury to get a game called off after a fan gave him a tap on the neck to say bad luck, and you think he should get away with it? Show me another incident like this where UEFA let the player get away with it, this isn't anything like regular diving during the game.

Get your head read mate, really.

Exactly what needed to be done.

However I do beleive that Celtic should have been fined a bit more.

Celtic got off the hook a little because of Dida's dive. The fan touching Dida shouldn't of had too much to do with it. Celtic should have been fined for one of their fans getting onto the pitch which is just not allowed. But Dida goes and makes it look like he's got a f*cking poison thumbtack in his finger which he drives into Dida.

But what was done was dnoe rightfully so...

Celtic got fined...
Dida got banned...

All that needed to be done.

And you can't compare this to regular diving. Different circumstances entirely.

If Dida gets a 2 game ban for faking an injury in a non-match situation based on video evidence, then anyone caught faking an injury in a match should get a 2 game ban based on video evidence, right?

It's time these clowns just owned up and start using video evidence.

and yet a fan shouldn't of been on the field tapping players on the neck in the first place. we're dismissing player safety here or what? and a dive is a dive end of story. players go down all the time clutching at ankles and getting substituted to make their claims more legit and are playing 3 days later so stick that argument up your arse. unless every dive from here on is made a suspension then this UEFA at their bullsh*t best

okay i stand corrected

don't get me wrong i have no problem with suspending divers. infact i advocate it like all of you. what i have a problem is suspending one bloke for diving and the rest get off scot free every week and cheat merkins like cristiano ronaldo win player of the year awards when they're diving scum

I agree

But I'm just more glad we don't have to play a match behind closed doors

very very lucky. infact i thought UEFA were goin to crack down on crowd violence after the flare incident and coin throwing incident? a pack of useless twats they are but then again a clean record (to my knowledge) probably helped too

wasn't a croatian or bosnian team booted out of europe this season for crowd violence?

Serie A - not content with producing the best football, winning the Champions League and having the European Golden boot winner, but also fining and suspending players for diving.
