Six Celtic Crusaders players are to be deported after immigration officials ruled they breached visa regulations.

It was reported last month that the Crusaders were found to be in breach of the rules, with the UK Border Agency saying visas to bring some players in to the country were insufficient.

The six players are Darren Mapp, Mark Dalle Cort, Josh Hannay, Jace Van Dijk, Tony Duggan and Damien Quinn who can no longer play for the club.

They have until Monday, 7 September to leave the country and are banned from the UK for 10 years.

Each of them has the right to appeal, but they can only do so after leaving the country.

A UK Border Agency statement read: "As the result of an intelligence-led investigation into possible immigration offences among players at Celtic Crusaders, we can confirm that six Australian nationals have been served with papers confirming that they are illegally present in the UK.

"We now expect these individuals to leave the country. If they refuse to do so voluntarily, we will enforce their removal.

"The players are prohibited from working in the UK with immediate effect."

Oh dear.

Crusaders are not really a going concern. They are giving away too many tickets and not getting enough people through the door.

Samuels pockets are not that deep. This fiasco doe not help the already poor reputation of the club.

A blessing in disguise, now they can blood some local youngsters with an eye on the future.

Dunno fella, I've not seen thier P/L sheet but I'd guess, like a lot of clubs in alot of sports, they're probably doing it tough at the mo.

Some of the players have been there for over three years, paying tax and getting their names in the papers each week..and neither HM Treasury or UK Border Agency(UKBA) noticed them? .Think it says more about the quality of Government employees then it does about the club. The club sent back the wrong bit of paper-BFD!

Strangely we never hear of anyone from other sports being denied visas or being threatened with deportation. You can't tell me that all soccer, rugby union and cricket teams have a totally squeaky clean record on the foreign imports front and that none of them have made any adminsitrative errors.

That's a brave result really, they have lots of injuries as well. Celtic had two Welsh lads on debut, one who debuted last week and another two with under 5 appearances each. These are kids who are 19/20 have only been playing RL for one/two years max. Leeds are bang in form and got 76 against a strong Castleford side last week. It's a baptism of fire for the Celtic juniors but with no expectation it could do them a lot of good, Elliot Kear at fullback sounded like he had a very good game on debut.

I don't think Celtic were ever expected to set the ESL on fire in 2009 anyway...

The RFL need to stay focused on Wales and ensure rugby league's future in that home nation..

Celtic need to start a recuitment drive of Welsh players, both League and Union..

If this was Australia, I'd say it would be a perilous situation with Carr and Gallop at the helm, but I think Richard Lewis is a bit smarter than these 2..

Keep the faith..

Completely agree with you on the ARL, i think the drums would have been beating for the Crusaders to be cut by now. Luckly for the game of league Richard Lewis is a smart guy and looks beyond tomorrow.

I was fully expecting 80+ and possibly three figures when Leeds were scoring at more than a point a minute in the early stages. As you say taken in comparison to last week's game it doesn't look that bad all things considered.

If Lewis was so smart he would have held back on the Crusaders in the first place until they were ready.

agreed

Celtic only came about because they fell in RL's lap due to WRU mismanagement and then had the good fortune to be gifted a franchise. If you were doing it properly, you wouldn't base an expansion team in a crappy ground in a small town like Bridgend.
