Centres

Okay, I'll stick my neck out and see what sharp instruments come my way.

Centres for next week:

Bailey and Mellars to the centres with Vagana to 5/8th. Move McGoldy to one of the wings and run with three forward interchange plus Sully. If either centre gets injured we are covered with Vagana and McGoldy with Gallen to 5/8th, not forgetting that Kent and Sully are interchangeable and very versatile.

It's worth a try.

Thoughts?

I agree something needs to be done. Our defense in the centres is a big problem. We need someone quick marking cooper tho, i think he would have too much pace for someone like Bailey.

I only caught the 2nd half of premier league yesterday and whilst Mellars didn't really get the ball in his hands in attack he seemed to be fairly willing in defence. He looks like he might have a bit of mongrel in him in this regard so lets hope he aims up over the next couple of weeks.

If we're going to make a run at the finals, we need to sort out and erraticate our problems in the next two or three rounds. Yesterdays performance in defense by our back was grade c bullsh*t. Our hopeless Premier League side would've blushed at that performance.

I don't think Vagana should be moved out of the centres. As he proved for the Kiwis, he's not a bonafide 5/8 and he's the best one on one tacklers out of our current centres so why move him?

Ok I'll rehash and old topic why not try him at fullback while peach is out, he killed the aussies from there during last years end of season trip, I also remember he had a shocker there this year so I guess its 50/50.

I'm a fan of McGoldrick in the centres, but for the sake of the team I'd be happy to try him on the wing. We could go with something like: -

Simmons
McGoldrick
Vagana
Mellars
Merrit/Rieck
Gallen
Kent

Then again we have won two of our last three with the loss being against the equal top top team so things can't be that bad.

I don't think Bailey is an option in the centres - Copper and co would be too quick for him. Lock aint his go either, stick him back in the second row or on the bench.

Each game I think..today will be the day they use Bailey as a decoy and spin it straight out to the centres. It never happens. It would certainly fool the opposition who would watch tape after tape of the ball going to Bailey and then being tackled!!!

In his defence, I'm sure Raper is telling to attack the fringes. Hopefully he can add some variation though!!

I think you might be right SS he seems to spend way to much time "blugding" out in the centres. Ok have him run at the fringes fine but not everytime the backs want the ball. I think his problem stems from last year playing out in the centres all year.

Move McGoldrick to 5/8. He beats his man all the time so give him some more ball in broken play and he has taken some kicks for touch so he must have a longish boot on him.

Mellars/Other performing back 3
Vagana 4

Move Bails to the 2nd row and tell him to try up the guts again
