Chad Robinson found dead

Very sad news. My thoughts go out to the family and close friends, couldn't have come at a worse time just before Christmas. I'm devastated.

I remember Chad's debut in 2000, big young forward, a local boy. Part of the young crop of forwards we had in the early 2000s, him, Jason Cayless, Danny Sullivan, Andrew Ryan. Disappointed he went to the Roosters after only about 8 or 9 games but he nearly played in their Grand Final win in 2002. If Ricko wasn't fit he would've come off the bench. He was a regular in their side after that. I was happy to see him back in 2005 when we bought quite a few during the off season. Played in the backrow with Hindy and Glen Morrison. Also remember him playing at prop when we had about 5 or 6 front rowers injured/suspended. Really stepped up and helped us in the finals when we were looked gone after Brian Smith left. Also represented City in 2008, it was good he was recognised for his efforts then. He never let anyone down when he played for us. A good solid player.

RIP Chad. You will be missed. :(

I played in a golf day with Chad and his brother ( not Tim, the other one) a couple of years ago. It was an annual pre Xmas golf day that a mate of mine used to organise. There'd usually be around 40 starters. Chad seemed like a nice bloke, quiet.

In what marks a terrible 2016, the golf day did not happen this year as my mate that would organise it each year, also took his own life back in March.

RIP Chad
RIP Dave

so sorry to hear that mate

Thanks for all the kind words and thoughts guys, and @natheel, yeah, no doubt I would be familiar with your brother.

As has been mentioned though, it's the young children that are left without their father that I feel for the most and who need all the support. And while Christmas is a partcularly sad time for kids to have to deal with this sort of thing, every day from now on is changed for them.

I can't stress it to everyone enough after what happened to my mate Dave - if you're ever in a situation where things are getting on top of you, Talk First, Act Later. What I mean is, talk to someone, anyone. We all have value and nobody is replaceable when it comes to family.

If only Chad was able to witness the outpouring of support on social media over the last month things may have been different.

RIP big fella.

This is very sad news.

I have had the pleasure of sharing a couple of beers with Chad. I didn't exactly know him well but he was very welcoming and a pleasure to talk to. A very genuine bloke.

Rest well Chad. The demons are now gone. You are at peace.

Depression and anxiety are seriously f**ked up. I know from experience. I know a few of the people on this forum personally and even if I don't if you ever feel the need to talk to someone message me or find me on Facebook and we'll have a chat. There is always someone that will listen. Don't go through it alone.

Well said and completely agree.

As some of you know I've lost a close family member and its the ones they leave behind that suffer. When you go through the various stages of grieving, you get angry at their selfishness of their act. Then you completely forgive them and miss them dearly.

Way too sad and pretty much expected considering the circumstances he left in with no shoes, wallet or phone.

Absolute tragedy and as others have said, there is always at least one person who cares and will drop everything and listen........the let's find chad FB group and the massive support the last few weeks prove he had all he ever could have needed.

RIP Chad.

Ain't this the truth.
Next year marks 20 years for me and the anger only mildly resurfaces when I realise my wife and daughter have missed meeting a major part of me and that it wasn't necessary. But most of the time they are just missed terribly.

I actually have a connection with Chad as well. I know his Partner's brother and when our kids played league together, we spoke about Chad. That was 5 or 6 years ago.

I remember speaking to Brian Smith about Chad when he returned to our club in 2005. He told me that he had one of the the highest % tackle success rates in the NRL.

The great defenders are the players that I most admire in the game and that is why I was a big Chad Robinson fan. I also never heard a bad thing about him.

RIP Chad.

There's a lovey tribute to Chad by Brian Smith on Facebook..

About 10 years ago I won a bid to get Chads 2006 heritage jersey against saints where he scored 2 tries in a man of the match performance, i had it framed and with some images on the game, one of which was one of the tries he scored.
A couple of years ago when Chad was assistant coach of our NYC side I offered it back to him and he accepted, the only problem was I didn't get around to giving it to him, I really regret that now but with the family's blessings I'd like to auction it off and donate the money to beyondblue or lifeline.... I'll organise it a bit later
Anyway, fly high mate .... RIP

Real sad thing is that when ones in that state many think they are doing others a favour by taking their own lives, many people see it as selfish but thats seeing it through logical healthier eyes, at the end of the day it is selfish to the people left but in the terrible state that chronic depression brings on you think everybody is better off without you anyway and your saving them all from useless person you think you are.

Sorry to hear you've lost somebody close and had to cope with the very bloody traumatic fallout, i understand the hurt and trauma it brings to a family and it has a bad knock on effect thats hard to measure.

Sydney Roosters and Parramatta Eels unveil Chad Robinson Cup

IN a heartwarming gesture, players in Sunday’s under-20s match between the Sydney Roosters and Parramatta will, for the first time, contest the Chad Robinson Cup.

Two of Robinson’s former teammates, Sydney Roosters legend Anthony Minichiello and Parramatta stalwart Luke Burt, proudly unveiled the new silverware.

Robinson, who played 159 NRL matches during stints at the Eels and Roosters, was reported missing last November before being found dead in his car on December 22. He had been suffering from depression. There were no suspicious circumstances.

“It was so sad for Chad’s family and everyone involved,” Minichiello said. “It was something I didn’t know was that serious with Chad. It is a big problem in society these days. Especially with men, they tend to keep things in and think it’s a weakness but there are great programs out there — and the NRL is also helping — to try and get rid of that stigma.

“Chad was a great player, someone you wanted in your side because he was such a great defender and cleaned up a lot of things commentators didn’t see. Chadwas with us in the early 2000s when we won the premiership in 2002. We didn’t have an inkling of it (depression).”

Minichiello is pleased Robinson’s name will live on through the Cup.

“He played a lot of games for Parramatta and the same with us,’’ he said. “It’s only fitting we organise a cup in his name.”

Robinson’s shock death broke rugby league’s heart. He was a 36-year-old father of two who was universally liked and respected.

“I grew up playing with and against Chad and was quite close to his family,” said Burt, the Eels’ under-20s coach. “It was sad and shocking to see. You look back on it now and wish he talked about it and sought help.”

The NRL game on Sunday will be for the Jack Gibson Cup, which is named after the super coach who led both clubs to premierships in the 1970s and 1980s.

With the NYC to be scrapped next year, officials will consider awarding the Chad Robinson Cup to the man of the match in Roosters-Parramatta games. The Jack Gibson Cup was introduced in 2008, the year Gibson passed away.
