Chad Townsend

I only saw the highlights of the trial game and Townsend really impressed me with his fast, decisive option taking and execution. i haven't heard much about him so googled him. His Wikipedia page has a couple of spoof lines:

"He has won the most stylish haircut in Auckland for 2014. His eyes are also said to pierce the opposition into a daze, allowing him to break the line often."

Thought it's funny.

I think he will prove to be a good acquisition. A good organizing half who will steer the team around the field. It gives me confidence that we can afford to move TL to hooker.
Roll on round one; when all my optimism turns to dust.

Chownsend has the ability, just needs to find the consistency. When I've seen him in FG I've felt Chad has tried too hard to be the main creative half... doesn't really suit his game. With Johnson and Tomkins in the side all Chownsend really has to do is complete the moves and place logical kicks... he did this very well against the Broncos. Hopefully this side will suit his abilities; I think it will.

Turns out I had that game on IQ.

The Chad was very good, the entire spine was impressive.

Johnson is maturing well, Friend is pest for any team, Tomkins is the real deal and the Chad clearly has had confidence breathed into him.

Bakuya and Matalino need to defend next to Johnson, teams will try to wear him out.

I see top 4. Even with Elliott.

Na, I dont make too many predictions, you are in for good season injuries permitting.

You finally have a spine that can and will use those monster forwards and backs.

You always had the monsters. But a spine that matched you have always lacked.

Look forward to a good year. Even better is the Broncos and Dragons look shyte.

Happy days.

I really don't think we have monster forwards. Myth perpetrated by Fox commentary team?

Lol, yeah you do.

All grades.

Do you have a prop or backrower or outside back under 100kgs?

Exclude the spine.

You do produce big guys.

Does any club carry props & backrowers under 100kgs anymore? Most outside backs would be up around there, too, for most clubs (ftr, the official profiles on warriors.co.nz lists at least 3 of our outside backs at under 100kg--though we all know how much weight official profiles carry ).

Agreed most teams have huge blokes, cause you kiwis set the standard.

All I am saying is you now have the spine.

I look forward to ball play, rather than kick to Manu.

Better way to say it.

I would argue that stats would say warriors/ vulcans/ nyc warriors 17 players outweigh thier opponents 17 more often than not.

It dont not think it is a myth.

Maybe big previously but totally non-aggressive. Campion was our hardest (and best) and we got him past his prime. What we would give for a Gallen.
Anyway Matagi, Lousi and Bakuya should help that.
Ball playing is all well and good but you need to win the battle up front. Something we have avoided too long.

Rapira, Lillyman & Matagi (3 of our top 4 props going into the season) don't exactly seem 'big' by prop standards, even in today's game. It's really not a huge pack. Compare those guys to Shillington, Fifita, McKendry, JWH, Kasiano, Tamou, Grant, Woods, Kite, Kennedy, Learoyd-Lahrs, Norrie, James, King, Bromwich, any Burgess..

Our current NRL pack isn't significantly (or any) bigger than the average. Vulcans and 20s is different of course.

Remember the good old days when the likes of Betham, Faumuina and co. (there were others but I can't think of them at the moment) would front the judiciary two-three times a year. I would like to see more of that too just not too lengthy suspensions.

And is it just me or does Matagi remind you of big Iafeta Paleaasina when he used to carry the ball at a million miles an hour, that is something we need more of, because our pack really hasn't shaped up the last couple of years bar the odd good games.
