Hull KR’s dramatic Challenge Cup final victory against Warrington Wolves on Saturday afternoon was the most-watched rugby league game of the year so far: with the full viewing figures now revealed by the RFL.

Screened live on BBC One with a kick-off time of 3pm, the BBC‘s coverage began an hour prior to the game at 2pm and ran until 5.30pm.

The game itself proved an absolute thriller and one of the best Challenge Cup finals in recent memory, with KR‘s 40-year wait for a major honour looking likely to continue until Tom Davies’ 78th-minute try, which Mikey Lewis converted.

Willie Peters’ side became just the second Robins team to lift the Challenge Cup, while Warrington’s wait for a major honour goes on having last tasted glory under the Wembley arch back in



It’s worth noting that Saturday’s clash in the capital was watched in-person by a crowd of 63,278, the second-highest since 2017, but less than the 64,845 that watched Wigan Warriors’ win in the final against Warrington this time last year.

Where TV was concerned though, the 2025 final dwarfed that 2024 clash.

On Saturday, the BBC enjoyed an average viewership of 1,000,000 and drew a peak of 1.2 million.

Those figures are the best of any Challenge Cup final since the 2022 edition between Wigan and Huddersfield Giants at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And to put it into context, last year’s final only drew an average viewership of 800,000 with a peak of 900,000.

Some stats

In total, Warrington were in possession of the ball for 30mins 53secs and of that time, just under half (13mins 41secs) was spent in the Hull KR half.

Indeed, they had the ball within 20 metres of the Robins’ try line for 6mins 41secs in total. By contrast, Rovers enjoyed 3mins 59secs of ball inside the Wire 20.

Their total territory figure for the game was 53 per cent and they actually increased the amount of territory they had in the second half to 55 per cent having been at 51 per cent before the interval while they also edged the completion rate statistics – they finished 83 per cent of their sets compared to KR’s 79 per cent.

Hull KR winger Tom Davies – the scorer of the game’s winning try – led the metre-making charts with 241 ahead of Wire full-back Matt Dufty (235) and his Robins counterpart Jack Broadbent (231).

For the game as a whole, KR skipper Elliot Minchella led the way with an exceptional 57 tackles while two of his teammates also cleared the 50-tackle mark – Dean Hadley and Jai Whitbread both made 53.

It's the second best since 2017....and crucially it cements us back in the mid 60,000s after it was starting to look like around 60k was the new normal for CC

I was there....right in the middle with the KR bin dippers....most of whom were great though we did get soaked in beer at end which is fine

Pleased to see my second team York get a win too

It felt 'big' in person.....coincidentlaly I was there 2 weeks previously for a football play off final which had 10k more and yesterday was a far better atmosphere
