Challenge Cup Final Coverage (Foxtel)

Hi,

Just wondering whether anyone knew when Foxtel were planning to show the Challenge Cup Final.

I read last week that, following intervention from David Gallop (NRL CEO), Foxtel would now be showing the game, but there was no mention of when this would be.

Having checked the Foxtel EPG for Saturday night, Fox Sports 1 is scheduled to show live English Premier League football from 12am onwards, and Fox Sports 2 is scheduled to show the Ashes.

I think it is fairly unlikely that Fox Sports will shift either of those things in favour of live coverage of the Challenge Cup Final, so I'm guessing that it is probably going to be in the 'usual' highlight spot of the following Friday.

Does anyone have any further info, or will I have to revert to my original plan of listening to the game over the internet?

There was talk it would be shown live, which means I think means 5:30am Saturday morning Sydney time? (That's assuming a 2:30pm kick-off in Wales.)

I'm sure Foxtel could punt or move one of the Premier League football games for the sake of finding a spare 90 minutes?

Foxtel usually have time slots on their website six days ahead - so there's no info there for the Saturday yet. Why not send 'em an email, or give 'em a call to show your interest?

Alternately, if Foxtel wanted good viewing numbers, it would make sense for them to show it prior to "Super Saturday" to make four league games in a row! That would only be nine hours delay which is better than a week...

If it's 2:30pm Saturday Wales time (assuming it's roughly the same time as London), it'd be 11:30pm Sat night - so perhaps showing it live after Super Saturday (not before) might be an option.

I have a few contacts at Fox Sports, I'll see what I can find out for you tomorrow.

Go Hull!!!

Thanks for that. I would be grateful for anything you can find out.

You're right about the time. The UK is currently 9 hours behind EST, so kick-off time will be 11:30pm (Saturday evening).

Booo Foxtel. Might be worth a call to NRL head office, given the publicity Gallop got for giving Fox Sports and BBC each other's phone numbers recently?

There is a posting on the TotalRL.com message board from someone who has called Foxtel to enquire.

Apparently, the game may be on the Main Event channel, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Main Event is a possibility - Fox Sports occasionally run games live when their other commitments (in this case the Ashes cricket and the EPL) don't allow them to run it on either Fox Sports 1 or 2.

If that's the case, it'll be free (i.e. not pay-per-view)

Pretty much BS when you think about it, Rupert used RL to get a foot hold in oz, yet all we get is Premier League and Union on FopxSports.

Yeah Soccer may be popular, but in Aus it has nothing, give us the CC final live, we deserve it and pay our money to see it.

I've noticed that the RU TRI nataions game between STH Africa and the wannabies has been shown 5 times, yes five times since Saturday night, yet sometimes we have to wait 1 and a half weeks to see a single SL game , this is not good enough.( mind you it's only Wednesday now, once a day good enough for a replay?)

The cc is 1 of the oldest trophies in world sport, Australia is the continent that loves this sport, yet all these arseholes treat us like sh it, if it wasn't for RL, i wouldn't have PTV.

I've also heard that NZ get live SL games yet we in OZ get it a week or up to a week and a half after the game has been played, what is the go with this?

If Foxsports don't want RL, tell us all, you will soon lose thousands of subscriptions because of your bias.

I emailed the NRL a couple of days ago to enquire whether they knew what was happening.

I got a reply today to say that they had checked with Fox Sports, and they definately would not be showing the game. :(

Looks like I'm going to have to listen to it over the internet.
