I can understand your excitement at topping the table. However, trying to claim that you have won the league when you haven't

If you don't see a problem with that statement, then whatever. I'm going to see my team lift the league champions trophy on Friday. No amount of Sky sports propaganda is going to tell me otherwise.

Forget the last 7 months and 27 games lads, mean nothing. To be the league champions, you need to beat the Giants, then the erm Giants, then play Wigan in a one of final.

A final? Like the challenge cup?

No, a better one, this ones brought to you by Eddie and fricking Stevo!!

If we want to go down the NFL route, then lets have two groups, a red rose and a white one. 5 teams from the counties. 2 from elsewhere in the league. Leaves time for internationals, Millenium magic, a bit of expansion and there isn't a league structure to determine the best team so it really is a playoff and super bowl finish.

tuesdays draw is £136m :sarcasm:

Good Luck!!! :D

If i win, i'll lend them some money. ;-)

You see, this is what happens when someone posts without reading anything.

PLAYOFFS TO DETERMINE THE CHAMPIONS IS NOT A SKY INVENTION

I'd like to try and have a reasoned discussion with you WM but you are so one eyed I don't think I'll bother. Enjoy yourself on Friday and don't forget to take plenty of tissues with you.

Playoffs to determine the league champions?

We had playoffs until 1973. Then we got rid of them, due to having a league.
This league is still here. We just won it.
The premiership has been upgraded because sky need a final to hype.

You have not done anything reasonable. Your first sentence was dismissive, your second post in this thread started pointlessly arrogant. The quoted post has also got an insult in it.

Read your own posts before replying. Think about it for a second, then we can have a reasonable discussion.

I will enjoy myself on Friday thanks, we get the trophy for being League Champions. Then i get to watch us in the playoffs and try to win something else. :D

The Super League trophy is won by the team that wins at Old Trafford. This is the same trophy that has been awarded to the Champions since the inception of Super League, it's not some sort of additional trophy like you seem to be suggesting. The team that wins the league leaders shield does not get to compete in the WCC, they are not the Super League Champions, the format of the competition is such that the Champions are the team that wins the Grand Final. St Helens were not Champions in 2007 and 2008, and Warrington are not Champions in 2011 unless they win the Grand Final. And if they do that I'm sure you will completely change your tune. Like I said, I can understand that you are excited, but 99.9% of Warrington fans would be cringing at what you are trying to argue now.

League Champions!!!!!!!!

Now we are onto a knock out comp to find the super league champions.
Doesn't alter the fact the Warrington are league champions for the first time since the 50's. No matter how much you and SKY want it to.

Champions

You were the league leaders, Not League Champions. That means sweat FA! Maybe in 4 weeks I'll come back and say I was wrong when I said you'd win nothing a few months back. Until then I still can't see you beating Wigan when it counts. I even have a sneaky suspicion that Saints would turn you over in the play offs.

When this does happen though I hope you enjoy the hubcap

Oh, and just to show that I'm not saying this from a "jealous" viewpoint... 2 years ago when we beat Salford to finish 1st in SL the Salford PA played "we are the champions". This ranks as one of the most embarrassing things I have ever heard and I still cringe thinking about it. Most of the Leeds fans were looking at each other thinking "WTH" too.

Oh and Wireman, the hubcap hadn't even been handed out every year since the playoffs started. Between 98 and 03 I believe nothing was presented for getting 1st seed in the Superleague play offs. Only since 04 has a token flimsy shield been handed to the team finishing highest in the regular season.

If you lose to Hudds this week and then say Hull KR the week after, the records will forever say you finished 5th

Looks like you were wrong already. :D

Only league leaders. After the league as finished? Good God SKY has made this sport a joke.

No wonder we don't get coverage.

one french f**ker won that £140.8m euromillions draw...bet he's a bloody pig farmer or something

Get onto him.

Take him to a game at Boundary park in January. The pity he will feel for the good people of Oldham will move his heart.

He'll buy you all a scarf and gloves.... :D

Union is decided the same way and it gets the coverage. The NFL is probably the biggest league in the world and that's decided in a play off. The NRL is the most watched sport on TV in Australia and gets plenty of coverage.

I like how you pick up on that but fail to acknowledge everything else I say. Teams don't go all out to "win" the league any more. They try to get in the top 4, yes, but it's all about timing your run and peaking at the end of the season.

For instance, the Green Bay Packers had an 8 win, 6 loss record with 2 weeks left in the NFL season last year. They had to win thier last 2 games just to have a chance of making the play offs. This is when they started to peak. They won the last 2 games, made the play offs and won 3 games on the road before taking out the Superbowl in Dallas. They were by far the best team in the NFL despite winning the same amount of games in the regular season as my Team, the Tampa Bay Bucs, who missed out on the playoffs due to games won against conference teams.

Last week when you played Wigan the week after the final, I'm sure thier prep would have been better had it been 14 years ago but the fact is it's not. They were guaranteed a home playoff eitherway and win or lose, it made little difference. They have the same route in as you now and don't have to pick who they play in the semi (providing you don't choke against Hudds again).

We're 13 years into the playoff system now Wireman. It's decided the last 13 Champions of England/Europe. It will continue to do so and now the league is evening out a bit you will start to see teams from outside the 4 having a good run at it every so often. That's the rules and that's the way it is. You haven't won anything yet apart from a token shield for ranking 1st though. As I say, I see plenty of weaknesses in your team and can't see you beating Wigan in the final, if you make it. They are just too good defensively for you.

You liked that pick up did you? Cheers.

The NFL is nothing like super league though is it? If the Super league was made up of 2 or 3 different divisions where these group winners made it into a playoff situation then fair enough. That would be the best. But it isn't.

We haven't won anything yet except the token league? So we have won something. The league. Not bad.

The last paragraph you seem to go off on one. We may lose to Wigan. They are the second best team around. No shame in that. We may lose to the Giants. Its sport, defeats happen.

I would like to hear the "plenty of weaknesses" in the team though? Given that they just won the league. I am really interested to hear what other teams fans think. I happen think the current team is the best Wire team i have ever seen.

As for the Wigan defence, yes its good but we have scored 63 points against them in the league this year!! How many more do we need to be a threat to them? The 80 odd we put on Leeds?

You can't really take into account the result the week after the cup final. I mean, come on. We have won the cup and been beat the week after by 70 points at Saints. By the same token, they have won the cup and we have beat them by 70.

Both teams are great attacking, dont get me wrong. I just haven't seen enough in Warrington against Wigan yet to show me they are the better team. And im saying this from an outside point of view because I dont have a horse in this race. To me, it all comes down to experience in the play offs. Wigan have it, Leeds have it, Saints have it, but sadly at this moment in time, Wire dont. Not saying you wont gain it but it wont happen this year IMO. How many play off games have you won in the past? My bet is that you will have to win more this year to win the Super League title than you have in the last 13 years. Oh, and by the way, when I bring Leeds into it, I really dont think we will win anything. I think our experience will get us to the semi's though before losing to one of the better sides away.

We have won an almighty one playoff game!! But then we have not been in them that often.

I think you are doing Maguire down if you don't think Wigan were up for the Warrington match. It was a big game at the top of the league, against one of there biggest local rivals and if they won they would of won the league. They also played pretty much there first choice team and conceded 39 points. Earlier in the season they conceded 24. So i still don't see where this great Wigan defence comes into it.

What Wire lack in playoff success we have gained in other big matches. Two challenge cups wasn't easy, and there has been some very high pressure games this year (Our big local rivals are also the best of the rest in the league).
Plus every year we always played Saints at the end of the year or in the playoffs. This match we would then lose by default, then go on to lose the next 5 or so games. The importance for this years playoffs is we have beaten Saints this year, and if we can beat the Giants then we will avoid them till the final (if they get there).

So I don't think past performance in the playoffs will have much bearing this year. We are certianly good enough to win, but we may not do. The joys of a cup competition.

Not sure what the many weaknesses you see in this team are though, something makes you think they are not up to much?

I watched Warrington last week at the KC and they were clinical on attack taking virtually very chance that came their way. They were also great in defence and tackled like their lives depended on it even when the result was a foregone conclusion. I can't see past a Warrington v Wigan GF. Then we'll find out if Wigan's playoff experience or Warrington's Challenge Cup experience wins the day.
