So that's it?
Ok, cool.
Croker is well liked and respected in the playing group, what you, i or anyone else outside the locker room thinks of him as a captain isnt particularly relevant. The players and coach respect him and as far as they are concerned, he's their captain.
Changing that risks alienating members of the squad, and for what? Better communication with the officials - something that will not improve the team in any meaningful way.
That's my point, changing the captain at this point in time is a cant win situation. At best, the team is exactly where it is right now. At worst we split the player group between those who feel Croker got scapegoated by the coach and those who embrace whoever is promoted to replace him
The potential negatives far outweigh the potential positives. Dumping a popular, well liked and respected captain for basically meaningless reasons is exactly the type of things that cause a coach to lose the locker room. It would be absolutely ridiculous to take the risks that come with dumping Croker as captain, given the absolute best case scenario just that we have better communication with the officials (and maybe not even that! We wouldnt know until we put them in that spot, Blake Austin for instance would be infinitely worse dealing with officials, and Hodgson gets very lippy with them at times, he's hardly a cucumber on that front)
