Channel Nine's delayed Grand Final replay strewn with sex ads

Just read in the paper that Channel 9 have given Fox Sports permission to show live Friday night games into the AFL states, but apparently Fox Sports have said they don't have a channel available.

So there's a friggin channel available to show fumbleball into the Northern States on Friday night, but nothing available for the reverse.

Pathetic.

This is the problem when you aren't allowed to deal directly with cable TV.

It should be allowed to offer games to free to air, any games not taken, then the NRL should be allowed to get the best price they can for the rest of the games. I still want to see a set in stone schedule like the AFL do, because it can't be any worse than what games we see on free to air now.

Very poor.

Thing is that Channel 9 can still have the pick on the best games, so games on Sunday can be just scheduled to be ON a Sunday, without the actual time pencilled in, and closer to the event, it can be decided which is on free to air, and kicks off at 3pm, and which kicks off at 2pm. Same with the 2 games on Friday night, the most appealing game can be just played first. Can't be too hard.

Friday night/Sunday games can feature on of the Broncos, Gold Coast or Nth Qld alternating (So QLD gets some games that interest them more), while you can make sure all rest of the teams get a chance to have a similar base amount of games on free to air, with the more popular teams getting a few extra (or more likely to make the finals, though it really should only be 3-4 extra over the least amount of free to air games for a team)

On a couple of things...what's his kids name to do with the story? There are kids named after all sorts of things and I hear they are mad English supporters at any rate.

On the issue on Channel Nine offer Foxsports Friday night games to be shown in Melbourne....it's crap.

Foxsports and the Storm have requested it for the past five years (started when (got the AFL rights) and both were told NO.

Eddie Everywhere when CEO said that they (swNine) had to pick up the ball on League broadcasting in Melbourne and that wouldn't give the coverage to anyone else due to the agreement that was and is again in place.

As for Webster's blog.....the guy sticks up for Gallop saying that he will do the right thing in the next TV agreement but never says it was GALLOP that gave us the current agreement that still see swNINE choosing which teams they want on Friday and Sundays and only a few weeks out.

Lets never forget that all clubs are hurt by this issue as club sponsors would be able to be charged more by the clubs for the extra coverage they would be getting.

A club that current has a front of jersey sponsor for $750,000 could easliy charge $1million due to the game getting better coverage in the second largest consumer market in the country.

The NRL could also increase the price on sponsorship for the same reason.

The AFL are currently touting that the next TV agreement will be around $1 BILLION, due to the coverage it current has and the expansion it is planning.

More coverage = more money for the game, clubs, Junior development. Also remember when League WAS the dominant code in this country it HAD Australia wide TV coverage....yep, the NSW RL Winfield Cup was shown Australia wide and 'Family Friendly' times.

WTF?!

Aussie Rules games are shown on Main Event in the northern states right?

Is there any reason Main Event can't carry the Rugby League games at the same time? ie: Can foxtel show different things at the same time on the same channels?

Taking into account "Stormwarning"s post re: The article not being accurate - The reason 7 fought to ensure Fox carried the AFL games is because at the time (Not sure how much notice you took of the process) - The AFL refused to hand the rights to 7/10 until 7 gaurenteed minimum coverage levels for FNF in the northern states, so 7 were the ones who negotiated the Main Event agreement.

This is where the NRL needs to stand strong in the next negotiation period, and simply refuse to re-sign the deal with 9 until they gaurentee decent FNF coverage down here. Not a case of putting details into agreements that 9 will never live up to - Flat out REFUSE to give them the rights until they gaurentee FNF will be shown into Melbourne at a decent hour.

All Melbourne's away games shown at a decent time on FTA would be a help too :)

Because they (Ch,9 in Melb.) want the next afl tv rights deal and in thick with the afl.

It has nothing to do with that. Gee the paranoia levels you have really are astounding. Feeling bad to be small fry in this town compared to the more popular game?

C9 used to show the AFL games at the same equally geniused timeslot in which they give us the NRL games down here at present. It has nothing to do with 9's desire to get back the Aussie Rules coverage.

C9 (& C7) simply refuse to go up against the popular sport in each market on FN for obvious reasons - It won't rate & as the FTA stations are reliant on advertising revenue, this will never change.

You can't actually blame them either. For all the sooking about "Them not having the games interests at heart" - They are simply a business trying to make money. It's the NRL's responsibility to ensure coverage levels are adequate, which is why they need to be pushing for Pay to take the game into the Southern States on FN's in the next agreement.

Honestly, its bad enough that Melbourne barely has a major League Fanbase. 9 is basically trying to hit in a nail in League despite them owning our Free-To-Air Rights.

And now this week we cant even see Aus v Nz test til 12:30 am sat morning, followed by City Country at 2:30.
Seriously WTF!!!
Channel Nine needs to get serious here, it as an absolute joke.
The Storm v Manly game was bad enough, but an Australian representative game not being shown is going too far. In a sports mad town like Melbourne, it would be watched by heaps of people just for the fact its Australia, even if they dont follow league.
I will be contacting Nine tommorrow to voice my strong 'displeasure' about this issue, and strongly urge all the melb league lovers to do the same.
This cannot continue.
p.s NRL, you need todo somthing about this, you incompetent sacks of crap.

Ok for anyone who might feel the need to complain about this (and hopefully persuade 9 to play the game live) ive got a phone number for both Channel 9 and the ARL...i reckon give em a call and let them both know how dissapointing it is, and that we want to see Friday's test shown live, or as close as possible.
