This game has been set up as a memorial game for him. It wasn't my idea but I believe it would be a way of honouring him.

As said above and in the other thread, chanting and clapping his name probably isnt the best thing you guys could do.

Well as I am here in QLD I will have to let that one slide through to the keeper. I personally don't have a problem with it but maybe as I have known over 40 people that have died I may be more accustomed to the idea of our own mortality. I'm sure those who want to do this have no intention of being disrespectful in any way. In fact I'm sure it's the complete opposite. Those who feel uncomfortable surely don't have join in. My experience is that people approach death in very different ways and I don't believe that there is a right way and a wrong way for individuals to express themselves when faced with it. If ever there is a time for tolerance and understanding of the fact that we have different views, surely this is it.

Put it this way, this is my own personal opinion about it all. I would hate to hear people shouting his name, followed by people complaining or swearing about something happening on the field (as you've mentioned in number 17 of the OP, where his name is shouted during the Eels attacking).

I think you should advise your team not to do the chant out of respect to Oscar's family. It seems quiet uninamous in this and the other thread that such chanting is not the way to go. You have the right to have your views over death and expressing yourself etc but when it comes to a public event where the young child's family will be present the best thing to do is pay your respects in a subtle manner as opposed to loud chanting which may come out as disrespectful. The players similarly, may not appreciate such actions.

Maybe we should reserve judgement and just see how it pans out. I am sure that if anything is deemed not appropriate it will be met by a silenced crowd.

Agreed.

I think you're doing some great things Tony, I'd hate for you, so early in the piece, to offend and piss people off.

Tony, I'd drop it, There is no need to mention Oscar, You have heaps of other chants that can pump the team up without mentioning the poor kids name. The family and the supporters don't need it, Just respect his family in a subtle manner.

Also Tony, forgot to say, I do agree with your post about how people take death. But you don't know how the people around Bay 38 will react, you don't know how they will take what you are doing. From their eyes it may not seem like a fitting tribute.

And again, I'd say there must be something better than putting up ones about Benji's shoulder. What if he does get injured again? It's not something to be cheered about tbh.

The Chant was included because people wanted it and has been removed because people have spoken against it. The printer is going insane may I add. Thanks to all who contibuted their thoughts on this as I believe this debate has brought about awareness but also the best possible outcome for tonight regardless of a difference of opinions. Please note edited Chantsheet and other Thread.

Those Benji chants are in very poor taste. Mate go support your team, cheer and boo as much as you like but stuff like that is stupid.

I never said it was anything about Benji personally. It's about using a chant to mock an injury. Still poor taste and something I'd hate to hear from a crowd of people.

Fair enough to get rid of that other one, but bugger benji, cheer about his titanium shoulder as much as we want.
Harden up.

He's not injured and I didn't make it up. It is my job to make sure the Chants don't go against the Supporters code of conduct and that's it. I'm not here to judge peoples input just moderate it. As a moderator yourself you should be able to understand that. There are a few Chants I'm not keen on myself but I can't just dismiss them because I may not like them.

Mate, I'm putting my two cents in, just like you are in this forum. If you thought I personally attacked your position, I apologise.

And no, he isn't injury, but it is a common note of an injury he has carried, hence the chant. I am just a person who hates hearing anything go on about an injury, every side, including your own, has copped it bad this season.

Personally, with the bloke being an absolute legend in my eyes, I'd hate to hear an opposition team do a similar chant regarding Shane Shackleton when he returns from injury.

Just my two cents though. But mate, good job with what you're doing, at least you're showing you're listening to what people have to say.
