Here's a few of my observations of the game.

JDB, Vaughan, Frizell, Nene and Mcinnes take a bow. Especially JDB, he's really proving his worth and fighting for that contract upgrade. If he continues like this i'd be willing to retain him.
Interesting that the majority of those who played well are our new signings... Perhaps they haven't been sucked into McGregor's mediocrity vortex yet.

I'm convinced that the coach has something against Jai Field. Either that or Widdop is a f**king hog. The kid was dangerous in that second half with the ball in his hands, however Widdop kept shifting the play left and putting dumb grubber kicks in on the 3rd tackle when the wingers weren't even chasing. It was so predictable. I'm also sick of Mary going on about McCrone like he's some sort of established halfback.
"140 game veteran, representative experience". He played 3 games for Country Origin over two years.... When he was much younger.... At another club.... With a different coach... Playing in a completely different position.
Grow some balls at stop playing it safe.

The commentators were absolutely slamming the Dragons today however one thing that they did get spot on was this passing way before the line thing. Not only do our backline plays look sluggish but the players have clearly been coached to pass way too far from the defensive line. It gives the defensive side the opportunity to slide a lot more efficiently and have more time to read the play. If McGregor wants to talk about eliminating this "rigid" style attack, well f**k, that is all I saw today. Rigid, predictable, lack of creativity and confused.
A major reshuffle of the backline is needed, however I feel like any attempt at changes to the side will be in vein with McGregor at the helm.

It's gonna be a long year folks, get comfortable.

Reminds me of a Collegians U/10 practice session. It's embarrassing seeing a first grade team play like that.

The betting agencies should start a market on the number of kicks Widdop will put into the opposition's legs.....

That was 80 minutes of 2016 continued....

Our "brand" is apparently aiming to be the laughing stock of the NRL.

From the body language in the press conference it seems that Mary knows the gig is up and Widdop looks like he needs a holiday, somewhere overseas, maybe England.

Both teams had new players to slot in.
However Souths looked like a well oiled machine and we looked like a rabble.
If Inglis had been on deck they would have scored another 10 points. Next weekend they should play the Dragons NRL side against the Cutters. Widdop is a joke as he could not lead anyone and makes too many mistakes.

Widdop needs to go he is in terrible form, he alone has been the biggest problem last season and the charity shield just highlighted that even more.
Massive chunk of the salary cap wasted on a dud.

Until we fix our halves we are going NOWHERE.

Widdop is just not a playmaker. Never has, never will be. His success came as a foil for a dominating half like his role in Melb. He came here thinking he could be the man and he’s just not up to it. I watched him quite closely yesterday and as soon as he receives the ball, his first step is sideways. Terrible kicking game and he’s lost any speed and agility probably due to his hip injury. No desire to engage the defence at all which was exactly the same as last year.

Is it any wonder our attack always ends ups pushed to the sidelines. Add Duges to the problem who has zero creativity, then we’re pushing sh#t uphill like always.

Widdop is garbage.

My hangover yesterday was far more damaging than any attacking play he attempted.

McGregor seriously needs to look at alternative halves options. I have no idea why Widdop is a walk up start in the #6. Give Mann a go.

Evidently there was a hell of a lot of noise concerning the Dragons last night as the result of the Charity Shield sunk in.
Many were thinking that all that noise might have led to something positive in the papers this morning, but alas it turned out that the noise was coming from all the cemeteries, as former players and supporters turned in their graves.

Well we're back and it look like its going to be another long season. Have we got to work to do on our spine (9,7,6,1) or what?. I don't care about size, shape, overweight, underweight, reputation, salary etc., just give these backbone roles to players who want to take hold of the team, provide some direction/leadership and aren't scared to play what's in front of them. You need confident players in these key roles. I noted two/three spontaneous plays (when the game was already lost) and I give kudos to Dugan for that try round-the-corner assist and to the forwards (again) for their continued efforts but without a solid spine to provide the fulcrum on which our forwards can leverage their strengths and the backline can slot into, we are in for another long, long, long, long, long......long grinding season. Dragons fan since 1976.
