Titans have given Cronk 800k a year. If Cronk is worth that, then Foran at his age is worth a bazillion.

5 years 4 million would be a good contract for a superstar in the next tv rights deal.

Foran started negotiations asking for 14% (just under $600k now, $700k if the cap goes up to $5mill), that will probably be negotiated down by the club. Manly have things to offer besides money that make their offer more attractive (and I don't mean boats, houses or brown paper bags) whereas all Souths could offer is money and the opportunity to destroy a promising career. The simple fact your club has to pay overs to attract quality players puts you behind the 8 ball from the outset.

DCE was under contract for next year so if it became a p!ssing contest he might have ended up sitting a year out. It was said the other day that he had agreed to terms for 2014/15 and they only had to nut out his upgrade for next year. I reckon he won't be getting the $500k next year. An upgrade to keep him happy but not the full whack in 2013. He'll be going from sanga's to burgers in 2013 and then chinese takeaway in 2014.

Foran doesn't contribute anywhere near as much to a team as Cronk and i think you are wasting cap space if you pay him as much. A ball running 5/8 is nowhere near as valuable as a quality half and i'm amazed how few people seem to realise this.

DCE is the quality half you are refering to. That gives Foran the room to do the running. They compliment each other well. Thats why he will be staying at Manly too.

That's exactly the point though, DCE is the important player here. Finding a player who shines next to a quality halfback is easy. Finding a good hacfback is hard as hell. That's why you pay the big money for the half and not the player running off him.

It's also why signing Foran isn't that big of a deal. I think he goes great at Manly and at rep level but i wouldn't offer him a big contract. He would end up being a bust just like Maloney will for the roosters (all he does is run onto other peoples plays).

For me Foran is worth more like 250-300K. DCE is worth a lot more.

Daly wouldn't be a massive drain, even with the full terms of the contract. They said the first two years are an improvement, but nothing like the terms of the last two years. Smart business from Manly, especially with the new rights coming in. If they can do something similar for Foran...
