Funny how time can change perspectives. The Titans, despite losing Sezer, Roberts and Myles and missing out on Evans, look in much better position than at any point in the last 5 years. Sezer and Roberts are woefully out of form, and Myles and DCE are stuck playing for a bog average Manly outfit, while the Titans under Henry have managed to cobble together an unfashionable but cohesive and competitive outfit with a pair of very exciting young halves.

I guess Fulton promised Pearce his spot to join Manly but he kept stringing him along? Maybe Coote did not sign with Manly so this is a get square? Nathan Merritt must have been about to sign with Manly I'd say when he got in. Likewise Kane Snowden, Tim Mannah, Tim Grant, Josh Reynolds etc.

Point being, there are selections thrown up nearly every year that get questioned. As soon as one of those is a Manly player "oh its a conspiracy" when there are plenty of other calls made in every team, every year.

Are you really trying to compare those selections with buhrer and Walker?
For many years blues failed to match Queensland up front. Many front rowers were tried. Mannah, Snowden and Grant were all young in-form front rowers when they were picked.
Merritt was in good try scoring form for many years. Many thought he was unlucky to miss out. When he finally got picked it was because of a lot of injuries in the wing position.
Reynolds had taken bulldogs to a grand final before his origin selection, he had a high tempo game that was thought to be suited to origin. Both he and Hodkinson were in decent form at the time.
All the players you mentioned were picked in their correct positions, were in decent form and at least formed part of a plan.
Buhrer and Walkers selections can't be compared. Never were in good form when they were picked, in fact walker is in the worst form of his career. Neither were picked in the proper positions. Buhrer is an average back rower who was picked as a back up hooker because it was unknown at the time if farah could last 80 minutes in origin. Walker is a centre who was picked in a bizzare utility role. The fact that both only played about 8 Minutes shows that their was no real plan for their selections.

I can compare them, as when they were selected there were plenty questioning the merits of their selection.

My point was not the position they were selected for, but the fact plenty thought they should not be there.

There's a huge difference between saying a player shouldn't be there because maybe there are better players in their position , like you could say for grant/snowden/mannah even though those guys were in good form at the time of their selections, and the selections of guys like buhrer and Walker who weren't in good form and seemingly serve no function to the team (no one has yet said what walker's role was supposed to be)

Your opinion of Buhrer being in poor form is your own. Personally I don't think he was.

He can also play hooker, second row, lock, five eighth and centre. Sounds pretty utility worthy to me. That was what he was selected as - a utility. His function (as Walker's) in the team is purely in the hands of the coach.

Whilst I agree that Walker was a left field choice and I personally would not have selected him, my point is that as soon as a Manly player gets selected its all a conspiracy theory. But there are plenty of selections from other clubs that are questionable, but they don't fit the tin foil hat brigade's theories so are left alone.

Anyhoo, onto Friday afternoon and concentrating my thoughts on beer selection for the weekend :D

Buhrer had like one or two good games and the media jumped on the bandwagon and got him selected. If you thought Buhrer deserved selection based on his form you need to lay off the smack. Just because a mediocre player can play several positions in a mediocre fashion, doesn't make him valuable.

Buhrer's selection was only slightly less ridiculous than Walkers, neither get picked if they weren't playing for manly that is a certainty.

Hang on, you say the media got him selected?? I thought it was Manly that got him selected via Fulton?

I'd actually agree that the media got Buhrer selected.

Buhrer was in pretty decent form when he was selected. Walker has been in awful form all season, there was no justifying his selection whatsoever.

No, but Fulton does.

Most seem to use the Fulton theory as he uses it as bait to sign players to Manly.

So what, pray tell, was his motivation for selecting Buhrer who had already been at the club for 4 years prior to his selection?

This conversation is interrupting beer daydreams! Enough! :D

How much do Origin players get these days per game - 30K? Maybe Manly could only offer Walker x-amount to join them when Souths punted him but Bozo said to him - "I'll get you nearly 100K extra come Origin time Dylan, just sign this contract bud"...

Given he is going to be dropped for game 2 (and rightly so) that seems like an awful lot of trouble for $30k. But please do continue with the conspiracy theories.

Also, what is he was injured? If its a standard contract he is paid regardless of injury, so you think he'd risk $100k in the hope that A. he was not injured and so eligible for selection, and B. take the risk that he was going to get picked on a "promise". Please.

He could get more than that just missing some tackles in a club game for the right price ;-)

Do you think he will be dropped?

Laurie didn't seem to be making those statements after Game 1... seemed to back him pretty heavily.

You guys are idiots. Clearly Dylan Walkers form has been great and thoroughly deserved his spot in the Blues.

The fact that he's a new signing for Manly and Bob Fulton had a history of dodgy selections in the past is just pure coincidence.
