Or, the third option in the case of Woolford, be driven backwards onto your back? Option Three thanks.

well diablo we have a big problem in the NRL this yr.
over 25 charges this yr and we still have 7 rounds left.
What to do about it?
Cant say "no lifting" as that has not stopped anyone this yr from doing so.

I see rational debate is as vibrant as ever in Queensland
It's nice to see the Sydney siders still holding on to that superiority complex.

Back on topic - Most Bronco fans will agree that Webcke was extremely lucky to only recieve a grade one, but good ole Ray is at his senile best with that crap.

"It was an act of god that Webster was not crippled."

 That's sensationalist journalism, Beccy Wilson style.

can say that yes...but thats not working.
In 80% of tackles there is lifting by the defending team.
Defenders will lift to get the player off his feet so that they can be Dominant, put them on their back, and also turn them around so that they have to take more time to face the defenders line when playing the ball.

care to explain this "scott free" incident re tallis a "few yrs ago" ?

When Tallis decided to drop 9 punches on Ben Ross, whether or not he was provoked is not the point. Danny Williams was headslammed by Mark O'Neill before he king hit him.. Trent Barrett (another koala) was alledgedly elbowed by PJ Marsh before punching him. Whilst Barrett was not punished enough imho he still copped a charge and a suspension.

danny williams was NOT headslammed by ONeill...he was hit in a high tackle and no action was taken so Williams became Judge Jury and Executioner.

Tallis/Ross was a classic one on one fight. 9 punches i dont think so. Maybe 4-5 and then it was broken up. They squared up and tallis let go and so did Ross.
At that time (2003) no player had been suspended for such a fight.

Can say no hnds between legs. That's what usually makes it more dangerous.

Spot on.

I think you can't crucify a player for a very good technique, but pure shape of momentum stopping from the attacker having a bad effect - such as the Woolford incident. However I think hands between the legs for me shows some sign of intent and recklessness, which is where I think the penalty should be harsh.

Webcke, due to his clean record should be out for 2 matches, Woolford should have played last week.

lol, what a ridiculous article.

I'm a Broncos fan and I agree that Webcke should've been gone for two weeks. It's ridiculous that he's not missing any. But that article is an absolute joke, making it sound much worse than it was.

'What Webcke did was chillingly horrendous.

You could imagine the collective intake of breath around Australia from tens of thousands of TV viewers watching a seemingly inevitable neck injury.'

'It was an Act of God that Webster was not crippled.'

Obviously there's nothing funny about the tackle itself(or the notion of someone being seriously injured by one), but Chesto's outcry suggests that the tackle was an exceptionally dangerous one(in the context of dangerous throws), when it really is just worthy of a mid-range grading.

it was exceptionally dangerous. Could he get him any more vertical?
Whilst the verticality is an important factor, the player faces a much larger risk of suffering serious spinal damage if there is a significant force applied, which wasn't the case with Webcke.

and you can back this up?

I met a bloke who tripped into his door at home and broke his neck. Signifigantly less force permanently disabled him.

Another man was knocked over by his dog and ended up the same way.

I could go on.....
