Yes I know we are 0-2 after 2 rounds and that is not a good start to the season in anyones terms, however I cannot understand the doom and gloom on here and the negativity since the announcement of Burt, Morgan and Horo's sacking.

This forum was full of comments last year about how our forward pack held their own and it was our backs that let us down in 2011. We all admitted that SK inherited a team for 2011 and that when he had responsibility for buying the players he wanted we would see how they performed. Last night was the first time the run on side contained the 1-7 that Kearney could not say he inherited.

Only Hayne and Sio were with us in 2011 in the backs and Sio debuted in round 26 last year under Kearney, so he fits in the "SK wanted him" basket, just like Blair, Tonga x 2, Roberts and Sandow.

And with the 1-7 that Kearney wanted (and got), we looked like world beaters for the first 15 mins. We then lost Hayne and while we didn't handle it well at first, we did regroup and were still in the game with 15 to go.

I for one am prepared to sit back and watch this season unfold. We have had our main strike weapon on the field for 16 mins of the 2012 season and in that 16 mins we were 8-0 up against last years grand finalist.

Mmm, time for us to take a chill pill and relax a little - hell after 25 seasons of riding this merry-go-around, I am sure we aren't ready to get off the ride just yet.

I'll support the Eels each and every week. But i'm also sick of people making excuses. It's no surprise we have a losing culture if fans accept mediocrity.

Agreed. I will support the Eels until the day I die.
This coach however will not get us (or any other side) a premiership. He knows one way, and when that way doesn't work he is bereft of ideas and creativity and then out team suffers. Occasionally, the individual brilliance of some players may pull us through these times but that is not going to happen often.

x2 and while not satisfied with losing i am content with where we are at the moment. As i have said in previous posts w/l doesn't give a true indication of our performances from week to week.

However on the flip side while i am a massive fan of the improvement i have seen from 10-11 and into this year and a believer in SK, Nolan and co., i believe next year will be make or break for Kearney. The reason i say that is we will have a fair bit of cap room to move for next year considering shack, poore, hindy, burt and smith are off contract (while i have no idea about $$ i have read people say some of these are on big coin). We need an edge back rower, someone who can bust the line, and if we can jag one we will add another dimension to our attack.

The other reason will be the depth we have. i feel we have a really good squad, and i really like the thought of how much first grade experience these 'kids' now have. With a strong squad and a coach willing to make some tough/unpopular decisons (burty sacking), we will have cover for injuries and runs of poor form which seem to be inevitable these days.

Finally it is the 3rd year of his contract and any talk of an extension will be based on our position as of rounds 10-15 next year and rightly so.

You won't find me making excuses and I don't accept mediocrity, however I also do not believe that just because we run out in Blue and Gold we are lay downs to win every game. Reality and accepting mediocrity are two vastly different things.

I'm glad you don't and no offence intended. But it seems every time there's a loss there are excuses being made. In 'reality' so to speak, we are sitting at the bottom of the competition table. It comes across some people are content with us losing, as long as we don't lose by much or we play well at certain stages in a game. Hence my comment about a losing culture. What did Michael Hagan always used to say that everyone always makes fun of "we're not far off from where we want to be"or something similar.

So if we moved to a policy of sacking the coach after any single loss would that make you happy?

This. Questions needs to be asked, the sugar coating where we are sounds a lot like our coach in every press conference........

If Kearney wanted to rant and foam at the mouth after a loss he could come here and post with the rest of you whingers.

I'm excited about the team this year, and I reckon we'll make the finals. This time last year I knew we were in for a long season. It was very depressing.
