Go to http://www.gameongc.com.au/ and either submit your own suggestion or choose from one of the following:

The options are:
Gold Coast Heat
Gold Coast Waves
Gold Coast Flyers
Gold Coast Marlins

The Gold Coast Heat sounds alright even though it's a straight steal from Miami. None of them really grab me though. :?

I thought NBL teams couldn't 'steal' names from NBA teams? Townsville had to change their name several years ago:

Wikipedia said:
It was a very different team that took the court in the 1998/99 season. The team had been involved in a dispute with the NBA's Phoenix Suns, who held the "Suns" trademark in Australia. Faced with the prospect of paying Phoenix royalties on merchandise sales, the team changed its name to the Townsville Crocodiles

Of course, that doesn't stop the Kings, Hawks and Bullets using their names.

For some reason, Waves is my personal favourite. Fylers sounds silly, while there's a basketball state league team called the Marlins already (if it worked for Redcliffe with the Titans, then I suppose it can happen again)

Bomber it's very possible given how long those 3 teams have been around that they existed before the US teams took notice of Australia and copyrighted their names.

The NBA teams of the same names were around long before them.
The Kings name was coined in 1972 when they were known as the Kansas City-Omaha Kings and they were the Royals before that from 1945
The Sydney Kings were formed in 1988

The Hawks name was first used in 1951 when the team was known as the Milwaukee Hawks and before that they were known as the Blackhawks.
Wollongong was formed in 1979

The Bullets got the monniker in 1963 when they were known as the Baltimore Bullets and before that the Chicago Zephyers/Packers
Brisbane was formed in 1979

I suppose the reason for the Suns issue was there is probably no other basketball team at a pro level called the Suns and for reasons rightly or wrongly they thought they were cashing in on the name.
Besides I like the name Crocodiles better, more of an aussie ring to it.
