Pick a classic match to broadcast
By staff writers
October 14, 2009 Fox Sports is giving you the chance to play program director, by choosing which classic NRL match you want to see in our new show: Chooseday Night Football.
As part of our Tuesday night programming, we will screen one of three great NRL classics that quite literally had it all and you can have your say by you voting for your favourite at foxsports.com.au.
This week Fox Sports presents a whacky-weather trio of matches where the on-field talent and nail-biting results played second fiddle to conditions that normally wouldn't lend themselves to top-shelf football.
Simply select the game you most want to see in the poll, and the match with the most votes by midnight on Monday every week will go to air on Fox Sports 2 at 8:30pm (EDT) the following night, Chooseday night.
Each week's selections will feature plenty of past and present stars, so get voting and tune in next Chooseday to watch one of the following memorable NRL games.
Bulldogs V Melbourne Storm
Round 23, 1998
Torrential rain before and throughout this clash had players wishing they'd donned gumboots to navigate the surface of Belmore Sports Ground. To add to the build-up, Chris Anderson was going head- to-head against his brother-in-law Steve Folkes. Anderson had won premierships with Canterbury as a player and coach, but was now with Melbourne Storm in their debut season. The Storm were sitting in equal first, while the Bulldogs were walking the tightrope of elimination as they needed to continue winning to keep their top-eight hopes alive.
Canberra v Wests Tigers
Round 17, 2000
Canberra Stadium underwent an amazing transformation for this memorable occasion, looking more like a mid-season NFL venue. In a first for the premiership competition, this encounter was played in snow. Incredibly, over 7000 people were in attendance to witness this historic game that saw snowballs thrown among the crowd and even at television commentators. Almost forgotten among all this was an absolute thriller, contested by players that overcame frostbite with half-time showers. Would Canberra, led by Laurie Daley, adapt better to the unique conditions as they hosted the second-placed Wests Tigers?
St George Illawarra v Parramatta
Round 13, 2006
After nearly 70 minutes at Jubilee Oval on a cold, wet and windy Friday night, the nil-all scoreline looked better suited to the upcoming FIFA World Cup. However, another chapter from this intense rivalry produced plenty of twists and turns, with off-field events also having an impact. After recently signing a deal to stay at St George Illawarra for a further five years, Mark Gasnier replaced the suspended Trent Barrett at five-eighth. Following the departure of Brian Smith, a struggling Parramatta were playing for just the third time under caretaker coach Jason Taylor.
I remember we got robbed in the canberra game- even the raiders supporters at the club admitted it.....
