Chris Beattie

One guy I think could be of value is Chris Beattie.
I know there may be concerns with dicipline & a dubious judiciary record, but a fit & in-form Beattie could provide the aggresive spark we are obviously lacking at the moment. We wouldn't have to throw buckets of cash at him either as he is unwanted by the Sharks, & is only considered plan B at the Warriors should they miss out on Price.

I think we have some good young props coming through the ranks in Gibbs & Lima but realistically they are a couple of years away from commanding first grade selection on a permanent basis. A hard nut like Beattie on the field can only help these young guys.

I say take a punt, sign him for two years, give him a leadership role & make it known to him that he is there to usher in the next generation of front rowers. If he takes on this responsibilty it may just curb his ill-diciplined streak & have him playing the type of football that made him a very good SOO player not so long ago.

I think he would be another journeyman coming to the end of his career and looking for a final pay out ala Nick Graham....

Beattie is 29.
I'm not suggesting he be a mainstay in our pack. More like protection for some of our young guys so they don't get monstered by the likes of Morley & others at a time when they are only just learning the ropes in the top grade.

At the moment there arn't too many options available as far as front rowers for next year goes. Getting rolled in the forwards like we did in the Dragons & Roosters game harms the confidence & development of genuine prospects like Gibbs. Remember the TV shot of him with head in hands sitting on the bench, totally demoralised? Not good.

Im with Gus in a way.

Beattie has size, somthing which we lack, and can bring some agression. Im not his biggest fan but he could be a value to us. The bottom line is we need a prop and if theres noone else would you rather:

Lima, Gibbs, Payten , Skandallis

OR

Lima, Gibbs, Payten, Skandallis & Beattie.

Lima is raw but shows potential IMO. Out for the rest of this year so we'll have to see how he develops next year.

either our pl players step up or we buy beattie he isn't the best player but does have aggresion and would be better then what we have, i dont think it would be as bad as the graham decison we made last year..

the difference between signing Beattie and theo lder guys we signed last year is Beattie offers somthing we dont have ( Agression , Size ). Yet when we signed Sattler and Graham , they were just really for depth and defensive players who we already had an abundance of.

Scraping the bottom of the barrell at this stage I'm afraid. No doubt there are others I'm not aware of, but for a start we have;

Beattie (Sharks)
Webb (Broncos)
Vella (Eels)
Tanielu (Storm)
A.Kaufusi (Storm)

Basically not anyone of note. I think we are better off going with the guys coming through our lower grades. To help them ease in 1st grade I would look for an aggresive, experienced, enforcer to watch their backs. Hence I'd take Beattie out of what's left. Maybe this time next year there'll be a ready made frontrower up for grabs. For now options are limited.

Webb and possibly Vella (reluctantly) are the only players we should look at.

Beattie is sh1t and will spend more time at the judiciary than on the field.
