Apparently not happy at souths & wants out.Is dirty on the fact that all the Burgess bros are getting paid a fair bit more than him & they are having trouble with their cap in order to give him a pay rise.I know we have enough back rowers but he would be a handy signing although being a Queenslander he will probably go there.Opinions?

Don't mind him. But money could be better spent elsewhere. As pointed out, we have plenty of 2nd rowers.

Top player, only Sam Burgess should be worth more than him and only marginally. He is one tough nut and a good big game player sign, sign, sign.:)

Most of the players we call 'backrowers' are suited to the middle third of the field. we need more edge forwards and that's where McQueen could play a role for us if the signing were ever to come about

We definitely need more edge backrowers. Thompson and Frizell are great. Creagh is past it. It's one year too early for Bird. Ah Mau was good out wide but his future is in tight. Harrison hasn't really thrilled. McQueen would be a gun signing.

Frizell is better suited to the middle - disappointing on the edge, especially defensively.

Thompson (fantastic) and Harrison (ok) are our only genuine edge backrowers, while Ah Mau did a good job there late in the season.

I would hate to see him leave souths, and hate to see him go to the dragons, but if he did you guys would be wise to put him in the centres. He's great there, and you guys haven't had a back since gasnier. Having a back is a game changer, you will quickly realise how shit it was to have zero backs if you get a back.

Who are these great second rowers we've already got? Thompson, probably a good first grader. Frizzell, could possibly turn out to be a good first grader, could also turn out to be a marshmallow eater. Then who? Ah Mau? Cooper? Harrison? FFS. Planks the lot of them and already way too close to first grade.

We need a back rower, a prop and a hooker. If there is even the hint of McQueen being unsettled we need to be in there tapping him up and fiddling the books to get him. Like Brisbane will be.

Seriously, FFS.

Our pack is rubbish.

Read this a few times re Frizell being suss defensively...sure he may have made the odd bad read but no more than anyone else in our side, he literally tackles very hard - far superior defensively and offensively to harrison for example. His speed and athleticism says to me he should definitely spend at least a few more seasons as an edge player...and remember he was running off fein, stanley and soward... My pack:

8 Creagh
9 Rein
10 Merrin
11 Frizell
12 Thompson
13. De Belin

14. Hunt
15. Stockwell
16. Cooper

+1
plenty of room in our pack for a quality back rower... we have a lot of "depth" signings but very few ball runners that can bend the defensive line back.
a MASSIVE LOL at anyone thinking Ah Mau or Harrison are first grade standard...

agree we need at least another quality prop and second rower to make this team a top 4 challenger...that and a class coach. Backline looks great on paper...forwards suffer from being too similar (tough honest fit toilers sans mongrel)

McQueen is overrated imo. He was an absolute passenger late in the season and during the finals series. He looked good earlier in the year due to playing on South's strong left hand side of the field - alongside Inglis and Sutton. He's the kind of player who would struggle at another club. Thompson is a superior player already, and Frizell could potentially be better

mate the guy was playing 80 tough minutes week after week on top of geting picked for origin this year.. his workload was second to none in the souths team..
i think he was simply burnt out by the end of the season.

Second to none? Burgess and Teo consistently got through more work and provided more impact. He was their weakest backrower

Agree our pack could do with additional talent and im sure that will happen over the next couple of seasons as players become available.
But I will not write our forwards off before a ball has been kick in anger. I think they will hold their own against most opposition . Hopefully Craig Young will create a more aggressive dominant and mongrel attitude
