CIT and Raiders keeping the Machine Green
Monday, March 02, 2009
A new agreement between the Canberra Raiders and the Canberra Institute of Technology will see the Raiders calling Bruce home until 2021 and will see CIT and the Raiders collaborating on water and energy savings and training.
This agreement is great news for Canberra and for these two great Canberra institutions, Mr Barr said. This collaboration will provide improved training opportunities through CIT for Raiders players and staff, strengthening the Raiders as a playing force by being better able to attract, train and retain the best administrators and players.
It will also see the Green Machine really living up to its name, with the team working with CIT on storm water and bore water retention at the CIT Bruce campus. This will include a 120,000 litre water tank funded by the ACT Government for the sole use of the Raiders, ensuring the Clubs ground is maintained year round without reliance on Canberras precious drinking water supply.
The agreement will also see the continuation of the highly successful Raiders TV initiative produced by CIT staff and students to give fans an insight into what is happening behind the scenes at Raiders HQ.
Raiders TV also gives CIT media students hands experience as part of their studies, with students working to deadlines and production guidelines.
Its great to see the Raiders working with CIT to offer students unique learning opportunities and to encourage staff and players to train at CIT. By working with CIT to ensure the professional development of players for their post-playing careers, the Raiders will remain a club of first choice for the best players and staff, Mr Barr said.
The Raiders are an important part of the life of Canberra, providing Canberrans with the opportunity to see first-class sporting events at home and contributing to our tourism industry by raising our citys profile and giving visitors even more reasons to come to Canberra.
This agreement with CIT will help keep the Raiders a strong force in football and in our community which is good news for Canberra, Mr Barr said.
