Presuming we have none, I think City vs Country should be a best of 7 series with all players backing up for their clubs.

As far as City v Country & the Anzac test go, unless they change the weekend to have no NRL games, it's unfair to the 8 remaining clubs that don't have a bye. They have players involved & some will either miss a game ( or more ) or play when not 100%.

I realise that currently there are tv contracts to be met, but the entire rep season is an issue that must be addressed by the IC.

As far as a selection trial goes, if the NSW selectors can't pick 17 without this game, they shouldn't be in that role. We've seen how certain players fare against QLD players in previous SOO games & many times throughout the NRL season.

People underestimate, what playing in the game does, for a fringe guy, he knows he is at least being looked at, or not being looked at. Playing well enhances you rep.

I agree. While this will be the highest many players go, it let's them know that the selectors are thinking of them and may give them the confidence to improve and take the next step.

As an earlier poster said, besides Cooper, most players actually want to play in this one.

If NSW are half-serious, this will be a genuine selection trial. By the looks of it, just about every position is bloody undecided!

It is a token game so the NRL can claim they support the bush, it has no impact on selections in the NSW team and is merely an injury risk to players who have proved their worth in the toughest comp in the world, the NRL.

I like the game and never miss it.

Might go to Albury this year, visit my accountant and check out that Thai restaurant I keep hearing about.

I think it will be a good game this year, as it was last year. Certain positions will be on the line which will makes it interesting.

I'm not arguing for less good games of footy to watch.

Of the people saying that it is a waste of a game, how many of you are basing this decision after having been to a City - Country game?

So what if Cooper doesn't play in this game, but plays for his club days later?

Like others have said in this thread, this game SHOULD be played by young fringe players, trying to make a name for themselves
