City-country

99% of the rugby league public do not give a flying f**k about the game. That City lineup this year proved that the powers that be don't give a f**k either. Four players from that lineup played NSW Cup at some point during the year. That says it all.

City / Country has been a nothing game for many many many years now. Good call to end it. No use in risking injuries to players for it.

Cutting to the chase, bush RL needs to be rewarded with more than the pissant Country/City match so the sooner it goes the better. Then perhaps repercussions, subtle they may be in the form of lost interest in the game itself, will force the NRL out of the dark ages and a they will play top echelon games where they belong

Moving out of the dark ages is playing 'top echelon' games at shitty school ovals out bush in front of 8K people?

They should make C v C a special event type game for the best non-professional players. Genuine country players vs city-based - and not just from NSW. City would likely smash them every year but it would produce that underdog atmosphere Aussies love.

Run it as part of a dedicated Bush League round during the Origin period when crowds are down anyway.

Interesting looking how RL grew bush football prior the 1930s depression

During the rep rounds Sydney teams would send team of non rep players or injured players off to a country region and play a local division

Rather than NRL team A v Team B

Personally I would prefer to see
- NSW CvC
- QLD CvC
- Auckland v Rest of NZ

In weekend 1 of a 4 weekend in season representative RLIF worldwide sanctioned representative weekenends

SOO I II and III on the others

No, assigning Central West NSW an NRL team that encourages the bush to feel part of the big picture would not be as condescending as the 'City/Country' rubbish.

All that is needed is a venue as good as Mudgee has, but in a more central location like Orange . . . maybe the Roosters could do the RL world a favour and relocate where they'd draw better crowds than they do now

Only a f**king drongo would imagine an NRL team in the bush would play at a shitty school oval

I rate the Country Week celebration the QRL do with Intrust Super Cup (and in more recent times the NSWRL's albeit minimal attempts to do the same).

How is it received in country areas in QLD?

To be honest i couldnt tell you, I live in the suburbs of Brissy and don't really have an ear to the ground when it comes to the Intrust Super Cup.

City / Country has been totally irrelevant for several years, it hasnt been an origin selection trial for at least a decade now and outside of it being an excuse to take a game a year to the bush, it serves no purpose anymore. Especially when the NRL has confirmed that they'll be taking more NRL games to the bush to compensate.

I know if i were a punter living in the bush, i'd be far more excited about seeing a meaningful NRL game where the team's stars are on show and playing for competition points than seeing the left-overs who didn't make the Aus/NSW squads running around in a game that means nothing at all.

Only a f**king drongo would suggest putting an NRL team in a town of 157 people yet here we are

You certainly are if you think the Roosters and Rabbitohs up each other's arse is 'National' RL, sharing the same toilet went out with the Depression. If your answer to having too many teams in Sydney is neglect NSW as a whole you are a 24 carat f**king drongo

Setting up a NSW CUP team in Orange kinda makes sense

Trying to get an NRL team there is utter madness, especially when we haven't even got a Perth, Wellington or Ipswich/Brisbane 2 side yet

Thank god that useless fixture is going.

Take more premiership games to the bush. It will be better for all concerned.

Exactly, the best anyone in the bush can hope for is the NRL visiting the bush . . . but it is fun taking the piss out of the LU gullible . . . too easy
