Clarification sought before Hayne signs Eels deal
GREG PRICHARD
December 11, 2009

ELEVEN weeks after it was reported he had agreed to terms on a new deal with Parramatta, Jarryd Hayne still hasn't actually signed a contract with the club.

The Dally M Player of the Year's manager, Wayne Beavis, said yesterday he was still seeking clarification from the club on several elements of the deal before anything could be finalised. Hayne was already contracted to the Eels until the end of next season, but the new deal involves an upgrading for next year and an extension until the end of the 2013 season. The four-year deal is worth $2 million.

''There is a due process to go through and there are still some things that need to happen,'' Beavis said. Asked if the hold-up had anything to do with the club trying to arrange third-party deals for Hayne, Beavis replied: ''No, that part of it is pretty well in place, but there needs to be some clarification on a few other aspects. You can't leave anything to chance in deals like this.''

Beavis refused to reveal what needed clarification, but said he had met Parramatta chief executive Paul Osborne as recently as Wednesday.

''The negotiations are positive,'' Beavis said. ''They're ongoing, and we're just looking to tidy up a few loose ends. Hopefully, there will be an announcement shortly.''

The news that Hayne is yet to sign could make Eels fans a little nervous, just in case the AFL's Greater Western Sydney franchise decided to have a genuine crack at trying to woo the 21-year-old superstar across, but there is no indication of that happening.

''I haven't talked to the AFL,'' Beavis said. ''There was an inquiry a while back, to ask what Jarryd's contract situation was, but that was reported at the time. There's been nothing recently.''

f**k off Beavis. Stop feeding the media or big-noting yourself and just get on with business.

I hope those who are grumbling about Hayne not signing are giving it to Mortimer as well. He's taking his sweet time in coming to terms for 2011 and beyond as well.

I reckon some of these Journo's read these forums and writing articles just to suck in clowns like El Diablo. Feeding the insecurities of the insecure. Once a week, throw out a reminder that Hayne hasn't signed and their articles get read in the papers and online. You'll keep buying the paper and checking their site untill he does. Thats what they want. They wouldn't come out and directly say, "Jarryd is going nowhere" or "it's a done deal" because you will not read their stuff as much.

Now that Gronk has reminded them that Morts isn't signed past next season, i'll have a dollar on him being the next story.

BTW LeagueUnlimited got mentioned in the freebee paper MX last night. It was an article about the fans approving the proposed roof for ANZ. The journo based their whole article on a bunch of posts in these forums !

IMO, what Beavis is doing is what he is paid to do, i.e. getting the best deal for his client. Hayne is contracted until the end of 2010. Worry about 'what happens next, when it happens'...and remember, there is NO indispensable man.
"Take a bucket and fill it with water,
put your arm in it up to the wrist,
the hole that remains when you remove it,
is the measure of how much you'll be missed"

One player moving on, just creates an opportunity for the next one..

These contracts are filled with hundreds of clauses. It takes a legal degree and months of reading just to understand what the hell is written.

I would assume that it isn't to do with money or the like, because that probably would have already come out in the papers. I suggest it is something like "Jarryd is obligated to attend X amount of club dinners" where Beavis wants "Jarryd can attend as many club dinners as he feels like."

I don't want Hayne to leave us, but I would be so amused to see him sign with the AFL ... I don't think it will happen, but I am holding out for it

Im with you ED I am sick of this sh*t, and to be perfectly honest I can honestly say I don't give a flying f**k whether he signs or not anymore, this is the same sh*t he pulled in his last contract negotiations.
