Cliff Lyons returns to Sea Eagles

Manly legend Cliff Lyons has joined former teammate Geoff Toovey on the Sea Eagles coaching staff.
Lyons, a Clive Churchill Medallist who made 309 first-grade appearances for Manly, will take on NSW Cup coaching duties for 2012.
After having incredible success coaching the Narraweena Hawks, Lyons says he's eager to work alongside Manly head coach Toovey once again.
“It’ll be great to catch up with Geoff again, he captained Manly for many a year and I played outside him so it’ll be great to get that combination back.”
“I was fortunate enough to win the last two premierships with Narraweena in the A-Grade – so that was great, and I’m just looking to step it up a bit."

Toovey is equally excited to have his old playing partner in the coaching ranks.
“We’re really happy to have Cliff on board,” he said.
“I’ve known Cliff since I came into grade in 1988. He has done a wonderful job coaching in the junior league and I look forward to his continued development of emerging players for the Sea Eagles.”
Development is certainly Lyons' objective. The club stalwart says his team will play entertaining football but a focus on basics will build on the depth of the Sea Eagles squad.
“Obviously playing I suppose attractive footy at a high level, to give themselves an opportunity to go on to first grade.
“The simple things - completing sets, using up all your tackles, eliminating errors, that’s what every coach wants.
“It’ll be great to watch and I’m obviously hoping to be there for a while and watch them grow and come through the ranks.”
His long association with the club and impressive playing history make Cliffy a huge boost for the Sea Eagles.
Fans are sure to welcome back one of Manly's favourite sons with open arms, but Lyons is just keen to get to work.
“It’ll be great to get back there and smell the liniment in the sheds,” he said.
