Practice squad ?

Burton wouldn’t need much training anyway for what a punt returner does in nfl

They have an international pathway

Didn’t some famous welsh union back get picked up by an nfl side ?
What a waste just having a practice squad thing seems like a total waste ...you they have minor premiership or something.

The trouble is they'll be getting paid twice as much as our best players for sitting on the bench. Plus less concussions and wear on the body. Our boys are just way under paid when compared to other football codes. They are definitely elite, the NRL just has to workout how to find the extra money to keep them in the sport as their abilities become globally recognised.

seems practice squad players get $13k/week (assume only during the season)
not bad - but could get more in the NRL. The hope would to get a full time gig to get 10x NRL earnings

There is absolutely 0 risk of NRL players getting poached en masse by the NFL

Mailata is an epic outlier and one likely to not be repeated. They have near on 400 million population where NFL is by far the most popular sport and 100s of colleges full of elite talent to choose from where most never see an NFL field.

You will continue to get the odd punter and very rarely a special athlete like Hayne will give it a go but that's about it.

It's not the NRL level where anyone is getting 'poached'. And no one said anything about 'en masse'.

It's the school kids choosing to give NFL a go because they have a precedent rather than league and the NFL scouts looking their way in the hope of finding the next Mailata.

Too big and fat

Ideal for stop start sport like nfl

Hayne did really well for a player that came In cold at an oldish age to learn a new sport

Burton with his boot would be a huge asset in the nfl

Burton would be useless in the NFL

He has no idea where his kicks are going.
