Anyone have a simple way of explaining it? The way I see it is that it plays out across multiple time lines and it impacts each one. Something along those lines is it?

In a nutshell, yes.

What the book does is take 6 stories across six timelines and splits them in half. You get the first half of each story, which informs the next story as you go on. It's very complex, but very awesome.

Looks like it could have been a good movie, if the wachowski brothers didn't direct it. The one hit wonders are terrible story-tellers, with what is essentially 6 separate stories interwoven, I don't have high hopes that they can pull it off. I'm sure it'll look pretty though.
