strange that some emails arrive before stories have been released on the net and others after

not all members would check the net though so it would be a god thing for them

Yep, a bit weird.
Still, it's an excellent service from the club so far.
Normally, we wouldn't hear about something like this until the news tonight.

Just on that....I didn't get the club email till 30mins after you guys and I'd already read the story online.
Guess I'm on the backend of the mailing list.... :D

It would really depend on the service provider the club uses for bulk emails.

I know at my work, I do a bulk email and it can take a couple of hours to hit everyone on the list (which is significant in the thousands in terms of numbers, using a CMS), then at the same time I know of other suppliers who specialise in email marketing and it's instant.

I will 2nd this .... it all depends on how they send the emails - bulk emails are controlled by a 3rd party company and there can be inconsistencies from email to email

but the sent time shows up in the email so if that were the case you'd know it took a couple of hours to arrive

Dont ask me, I'm just the doofus that types and hits send and then complains that it takes a couple of hours to hit everyone. Thats done using a CMC (Contact Management System), which I assume (and I think MITS has mentioned it before) NRL clubs use.

When people on our database get the message, it shows up as the time they get it, not the time it was originally sent. I'm guessing thats because it sends the email X number of times as it goes through the database and extracts the email address? I'd bow to the greater techy knowledge of MITS and Strider on this one

while i won't profess to knowing everything, I know that the companies that send out the bulk emails will do them in batches - they have to take steps to ensure the emails are not seen as spam

and yeah the date you see in your email client is the time it got to your mailbox - you'd need to look at the headers to see when it was sent, usually it'd be pretty quick - but even then, I believe the way these things work (well its how they work at my work) is the system they put the email in at Parra just sends the contents of the email to another company who has the massive list of email addresses and then they schedule them to be sent out

if you look at the headers on the email (in whatever client you use) you can see going through different servers, some of which are in the USA (I can see some PST dates in the emails I have received) - so it looks like they are using a US based company for the emails (I imagine most of these companies are US based)

I know at work we've had times when emails have taken many hours to get through - things can go wrong in various different places
