Club line-up for 2008 open-aged comp

Apparently (and I've only heard this third hand) Saints will be joining Canberra in neither fielding a team nor entering a joint venture to field a team in the 2008 competition.

Furner announced an in-principle agreement with Wests on the radio the weekend before last.

Saints must have some sort of arrangement in the wings. Without it:
1: they don't have anywhere to play over 20's players not in the starting 17
2: they lose full membership of the NSWRL

So are you saying Wests will be tied up with Canberra. St George approached the Shellharbour Marlins but the offer was declined by the Marlins.

I thought I read somewhere that the Shellharbour JBC team, in lieu of a Dragons JF team was going to pave the way for the entrance of Shellharbour into the Toyota Cup next year. Obviously not.

Doust just confirmed on ABC Grandstand that St. George Illawarra will be neither fielding their own team nor entering a joint venture to field a team in the 2008 NSWRL open age competition. The reason he gave was the inability to work out a suitable deal. He said it was still possible that a deal could be made for the 2009 season. In lieu of a NSWRL team, St. George Illawarra reservists that don't qualify for the Toyota Cup will play in the Illawarra Rugby League.

The NSWRL has NFI! A comp without SGI? 2009 will roll around & things won't change :?

Because St George Illawarra have such a long history in the NSWRL.....

Looking forward to next season, but going to miss the Jets playing the likes of Parra, Canberra and St George....

the more recognised teams in the comp the better, but I'm sure the Barden Ridge Cobras will pull the crowds in anyway.......:whistle

The Cobras have placed an add in this week's Rugby League Week for Head Coach in 2008.

Leave the Cobras alone.

I had 12 teams confirmed as the size of the comp. Adding Wenty to the list on the first page makes 11, Saints are out, so who's the 12th. Newcastle I assume in some form or other. Can anyone confirm?

Can anyone confirm that is a done deal? I've heard that rumour as well.

I've also heard that the deal Parra offered to Wenty, Cabra and Mounties was that the JV team would compete next year as Parramatta in Parramatta colours.

It's definitely Wenty - they were at the last info meeting at Philip St, but name and colours I can't confirm yet.

Wenty will be playing in their traditional colours at Ringrose.

Last I heard Newcastle were very close to signing a deal with Central Charlestown, perennial wooden spooners in the Newcastle league.
