ClubsAustralia - fold or private ownership

It seems like these club/pokie lobby mobs can find anything to complain about. Wasn't moving smoking outside the venue supposed to be the death of clubs, followed by the capping of pokie machine numbers being the death of clubs etc etc. Okay some have probably folded but I wonder if a close analysis of those clubs would show they were fundamentally weak anyway..

With the size and passsion of our supporter base, the Green Bay Packers model is all Saints would need.

They can have my money right now.

this has political posturing all over it. Imagine CA having the balls to think they can use the mighty Saints name for a cheap political points score.

Is that duffer Peter Newland still involved with both entities?

If saints leagues wanted to save a couple of mill, you would put a management consultant in to clean out the detritus. There seems to be a lot of inefficiencies, and 1960s thinking. From the non use of the auditorium, to the lack of member services such as courtesy bus, cinema, live shows etc.

If things Do get as bad as some are predicting, then the packers model for me too. Would need some tweaking to suit our needs as a rugby league team, but would work i think. By the people, for the people

you want my thoughts Father Ted????

I think you might have to fold ... again.

Its a shame you've got no land to develop, you know, some sort of other stream of income to keep you afloat.

If I was a thinking club, that's what I would do.

Hey Quigs, are you the guy in the Dylan song, Ballad of a Fat Man?

here's a nice image for you to manipulate...

I call it "Victory in the Morning"...

In one year we achieved more than the Snarks did in 40 multiplied by 5.

Cheers, Willard.

don't worry to much Rexxy, in a few years we might be able to lend you blokes a few bucks.

We wouldn't want you to fold and die ...... again.

Who is responsible for letting this club get to this stage once again .... Oust Doust is what I say.

Who knows if things get really bad in a few years time we might let you merge with us as a junior, junior partner ... you can become one of the richest and self supporting Stand Alone Clubs in the NRL.

Why will even let you have meetings in our auditorium.

STOP THE BOATS.... STOP THE BOATS.... STOP THE BOATS....

I can see it now, all the boats coming over the Tom Uglys without a permit. Just wanting to taste what it is like to have financial security in a Stand Alone wealthy NRL area.

I dont care what the Mad Monk Rabbott says I will welcome you with open arms, as long as you pass the necessary health and medical checks and arn't queue jumping.

STOP THE BOATS.... STOP THE BOATS.... STOP THE BOATS....

All they will call you will be .....

someone will end up buying us and saints would be even stronger, sharks are a team with little support and the development will take 8 years so the sharks are as good as dead.

Dr Geoffrey is looking for a club. His new wife likes red so he might be able to save you from your financial woes.

No wonder Benny and the Jets is deserting you, he must of seen the writing on the wall.

"Already St George Leagues Club has said it will be withdrawing its $3 million annual support of the Dragons when mandatory pre-commitment technology starts. That means the current NRL premiers will either fold or be sold into private ownership." - Executive Director of ClubsAustralia Anthony Ball

If i wanted your opinion i'd put on a steel cap boot and insert it between your scales . If this kicks in you'll be foreclosed by of all things the St.George bank arriving in St.George taxis from their St.George head office in Kogarah long before you develope on that swampy mud plane
If your lucky we might take you back minus your colours badge or history ( nothing to contribute there) we might keep your cheer girls or lease them to Souths and if your unlucky you'll be taken by the doggies and become the dogfish .
Both our clubs are faced with the same danger but mine has known great success and is current duel minor premiers, current NRL premiers and also current WORLD CLUB CHAMPIONS .
Yours is ?????????
Have a nice day Queggsie:lol:

With any debate, there are two sides to the story. Both deliver convincing arguments yet both are at opposite poles.

Often the facts are found buried somewhere in the middle.

Opposed to ClubAustralia are the Centre for Gambling Research (ANU). They have published their own findings with claims that 75% of Australians believe that gambling does more bad than good. ClubsAustralia refers to these findings as a myth.

ClubsAustralia have a vested interest in having more one arm bandits in clubs. The Centre for Gambling Research are probably more aligned with the 'blow up the pokies' lobby.

Problem for anti-gambling mob is that prohibition can also cause more bad than good... you can never stop people gambling.

Ironically, the biggest threat to pokies will most likely come from the online gambling industry. Betting online is growing at a huge rate. Micro betting will flourish in the future.

Moreover, it can go offshore and is virtually impossible to regulate. People will literally have the power to gamble in the palm of their hands.

Pokies could easily become a thing of the past. The Centre for Gambling Research seem very aware of this. But apart from proposing to make it illegal, they don't seem big on real solutions. Meanwhile ClubAustralia just want more pokies. Are they really aware of the growth of online gambling?

It seems to me that both sides of the argument might lose out in the long run.

On a side note may I say welcome back Quigs. The quality of the trolls dropping into this part of the forum has been very poor of late, including your own dalliance with Dyker dragon. This is trolling with effort and some style ...... please carry on :D :D

So it will cost the St George club $14,732,885? What a crock of Shiite :sarcasm:

I mean they worked it out to the exact dollar? (I presume they rounded down the 20 cents just so they could not be accused of exaggerating) I would like to see a respected accounting firm put their name to those figures

:lol::lol:

And the cost of over 6 million dollars to implement this new technology ... just in one club .... what a joke :D

Actually i'm more concerned with the following statement than your bromance with a sharkie troll .

Already St George Leagues Club has said it will be withdrawing its $3 million annual support of the Dragons when mandatory pre-commitment technology starts. That means the current NRL premiers will either fold or be sold into private ownership.

Seems if it ever see's the light of day in it's current form and Danny and the board are pulling the plug

I agree it is a worry father ted. But I want to see some half believable figures first before I start slashing my wrists.
