Perhaps I'm going over the top here - but I want to give a big wrap to Daniel Anderson for winning that game with his astute coaching.

He had it ALL OVER Bennett on the day.

For one - Bennett picked a team with Nightingale on the bench - on a blisteringly hot day he chose to keep a back on the bench as a reserve.... interesting decision. Combining that with only selecting 1 prop on the bench (on a hot day) - oh my.

Anderson made sure he picked 4 props (Gulavao played exclusively at prop) - then managed to ONLY use 2 interchanges in the entire first half.
Matt Keating was playing really well, so he had the option of not bringing Kingston on at ALL and simply using the interchanges to rotate the forwards (10 times) in the second half.
Kept Mateo on the bench the entire first 40 - a completely fresh man to throw into the fray in the second dig - and with Kingston we suddenly had 2 completely fresh guys on there to lift the tempo and get the team moving again.

However, when Mateo had that brain explosion (trying to offload 20m out from our own line on the 2nd tackle while up 18-8 in the 69th minute) - Anderson quickly hooked him. The completely fresh playing (only played 21m) being taken off? Great decision because it was for the benefit of the team.

And the defensive tactics on Morris (bring Grothe up and in to shut down Cooper and the passing lane; and have Reddy, Robson and Hayne cover the cornerpost) were absolutely outstanding - and of course resulted in Grothe snaffling the intercept and racing away for the game winner.

There's a reason this guy has won so much at ESL level - he prepared the team SO WELL for that game - I've got full confidence that he'll have them totally prepared for the next week(s) too!!

Yup, the strategy for the right hand defense was awesome. Gould explained it step by step and I think he was amazed.

They used the sideline to perfection.

I big YELL OUT to Robson too who kept Creagh quiet. I don't recall one offload from Creagh.

For some reason, STERLO was quiet during the call. He was probably so in awe that he couldn't speak.

And big wraps for the selection of Wright.

He had a horror night last week, but he is big, athletic and punchy. Many coaches would have been tempted to use Smith in the centres. Wright did well and Smith was superb.

A huge part of our win.

Now I don't know if this was the plan or not.

DA knows that the majority of the tries are scored on the saint's left.

So he sticks a rookie there to get numerous video shots of them attacking there.

And so, he can review the tapes and devise a defensive move in which was extremely successful.

If DA wanted to win the first game against the drags, the smart move would've been to put Wright on the left hand side as their centre there and Dell are just not as fast. Powerful, but not fast.

And yesterday showed that Wright could handle the speed of Dell and their centre (forget his name but I don't care).

Soward attacked Wright on the right but to no avail.

Masterstroke by putting a rookie there or just coincidence?

Also his ability to construct a team. Many people thought he was crazy to cut Finch, maintain players such as Benny and Lowrie and to not call up some of the Toyota Cup players (besides Morts). Yet he's got a lot more out of the players than any of his 3 predecessors, and a squad that many said should never have come close to the salary cap is now a world class team

Sorry DA is great but what you're suggesting is just a little too hopeful. He put Wright on the wing last week so not to disrupt the team dynamic too much by moving Inu there. Wright only moved when Inu went out injured

You could just feel that all the really good coaches has a certain level of authority about them...........

Bennett, Smith, sheens and Andersen is definitely another. And it also helps when the coach has the club at heart. Anderson was with the eels for a long time before going to the esl and youd just sense that he always wanted to return to parra.

Great job to whoever brought this man home.

Smith HAD to play backrow in the heat.

A 108kg mobile second rower who can play the 80? Gave us a big pack to contend with the Dragons size, and someone who could run on the fringes and use his fitness to rest the props.

Oh yes. Make no mistake, Daniel Anderson is the real deal. Are we looking at the new Jack Gibson?

Jack Gibson? No. But he could easily be our Wayne Bennett in my opinion...as long as he retains support through the inevitable less-than-good years

a parramatta coach whose idea of tactics goes beyond releasing fridays team list 0.25 seconds before the deadline, amazing!

84 Baby.... I feel what yy cheng stated is spot on. Last weeks game was all about reconnaissance, assessment and testing the waters. With no game plan, no video sessions and with all players fully respecting and trusting DA as coach DA only has to wave his magic wand and the players will perform accordingly without given any reason why. DA has all the power so he has no need to explain his motives and that was the case, the players performed the way they were coached/instructed to do during last weeks 37 point loss to the dragons.

It might not come out until his memoirs but I feel it was a full on roper doper rumble in the jungle campaign and I said so not long after the game. I must admit I didn't see it coming as I predicted the Eels to run away with the game during the last 20 minutes. So I brought the same prediction forward 1 week later. DA is a brilliant, genious coach.

mate, i was watching channel 9 just before the game kicked off and seeing how relaxed ando was made me confident we would get up over the dragons.

i love reddy and grothes defense too they owed morris and cooper yesterday, still dunno why soward bombed gurus wing?? did he confuse him for wright or something or did he knot realise grothe was back in the side.

and i actually though wright played well yesterday, but i hope inu gets back next week, we missed his speed in the centres to help burt

Probably because the sun would have been in his eyes in the first half, but Guru was more than up to it

I think your coach is very smart, and has grown up some since he was last around this way.

Credit has to go to your players though. To wether that massive storm early on and come over the top of it shows that this side can win the comp, they will certainly play in the GF....garaunteed.
