The Narromine Jets are happy to officially announce the coaching staff and sponsors for the 2004 season.
Phil Carney is first grade coach, Sean Britton is resevre grade coach, with assistance from Eric Coote.
Luke and Jason Phillips are the under-18 coaches.
The Jets' major sponsor will be the Royal Hotel of Narromine with the first grade jersey sponsor being Narromine Holden, the reserve grade jersey sponsor is W Burke and Co. and the juniors' sponsor is Phillips Picking Contractors.
Unlike our big brothers and in some cases our big sisters in neighbouring towns who compete in the Group 11 rugby league competition, the Narromine Jets have resisted the urge and held off pre-season training until the New Year.
The official starting date is January 6.
New coaches Phil Carney - first grade, Sean Britton - reserve grade and Luke Phillips under-18s, explaining that the year will be long enough as it is and the early training commencement seems to be a growing trend amongst the other clubs, but also believes with the right training techniques the players' required fitness levels will be achieved.
After the club's success this season in the juniors and reserve grade the club is looking to build and create a winning culture throughout the whole three grades.
Not only is the club looking toward success on the field but also has taken steps to strengthen the committee with the election of new club president, Steve 'Sambo' Sambrook, which had an instant effect on player morale.
Sambo has said the job is a tedious one but with the help of his committee members, he will be looking toward the future.
Narromine has always had good juniors and Sambo has said one of his major priorities will be to provide a successful avenue or method of transition from under-18's into first grade.
Relying heavily on locals will be the order of the day, Narromine is a family club and spending big money on non-locals seems to have a negative effect on everyone.
While admitting they want to rely heavily on the locals, the committee is also being realistic about it and understand that it's probably not fair on the under-18s moving into first grade to have so much pressure put on them and also with the huge drain of talent out of Narromine to the NRL clubs, Narromine will also need to boost numbers with players from other areas.
"You can have the best two or three players in the comp but you still need the numbers to be successful," said a committee member.
On the player front the Jets are taking a conservative approach and prefer to quietly go about their business, although to date they seem to be very happy with the way things are panning out.
On the 21st of this month the club is holding an orientation day for all its members, prospective players, players, family and friends. If you are considering playing, supporting or just looking for a feed, come down to Cale Oval at 11am Sunday morning, meet the coaches, players and committee members and talk a little football. Then proceedings will move to the Royal Hotel for a few friendly refreshments and a barbecue.
Anyone interested in playing or supporting the Jets, please come on down to the oval and catch up with our committee or just come along to the Royal Hotel and have something to eat and drink, the Jets will be all too willing to help you out.
Here is my first of many to come, an analogy by a self-confessed league guru, which best sums up the club's current mood.
"Our trees have always grown the best fruit, so instead of jumping the neighbour's fence or going shopping at the fruit market, we might just water ours and fill up the club's fruit bowls."
