I wish him all the best for his future irrespective of with the Roosters or elsewhere.
He is an inspirational young man with a big heart , to overcome the difficulties associated with his illness let alone return to playing KOE Cup level League is an unbelievable achievement.
The Dragons faithful will always welcome you back into the fold one day.

We have Sloan, Lawrie and at the end of next year Gutherson clogging up the salary cap Anyone else I missed?

There is a letter limit for replies so can't list them all.

Hopefully Ando only targets quality and not 30+ year olds after a last pay cheque that no other club is willing to give them. In saying that you do need experience so must be careful when you sign older players.

With guys like JDB and Cody being released, they look to be really banking on their juniors because if they step up they scum teams like Dogs and Parra will be throwing them dollars and having secret coffees, so giving them their trust to make it to NRL may make then stay long term and not jump ship as we have seen in the past. I would rather retain the Couches, Halangahu's, Stewarts and Egans than JDB.

I am torn with JDB and he was great on the field but at the end of the day he really screwed Saints with his off field drama when they were building and playing finals. At the end of the day he has himself to blame for putting himself in this position. As for Cody, it is a pretty serious illness, and Saints are just making a decision based on that as there is a risk he may not play much NRL in the next couple of seasons at least.

I am still hoping Ryan Carr takes Blake and Sloan to England. It may be more a matter is they want to go to England. There is still a chance that may happen. Also the Perth Bears may throw them a bone to move over.

I understand the term, 'business decision' but that has a hollow ring to it in this case. The club, to their credit, stuck by Cody during the tough times. Cody, to his credit repayed the club by doing everything in his power to get himself back on the field. Here's the thing; since he made his comeback this season he has made every post a winner. He has been outstanding, easily one of the best players across the NSW Cup, culminating in his award on presentation night. How he has done this, so soon, after such an horrific illness is amazing, to say the least. Yes, he still needs to bulk up a bit, but based on performance alone, why on earth would we let him go??? Plus, the kid is red and white to the bone. Exactly the type of player we want at the club. He is only being paid 140k to go to the Roosters. How can we not find that amount of money to pay a player of his potential, and give him at least another 12 months. I'm heartbroken over this decision and very upset with my club. However, I wish him well. He's clearly a terrific lad!

I haven't been this angry over losing a player since Thommo went to the Sharks.
I wish Cody all the best and hope he can get as much money as he can to set up his family's future. He's facing challenges in life that many others don't and yet has still found a way to do what he loves.

Leilua is also on $700k this year.. that is way overs for his limited impact. Don’t expect he will be around 2027.
Cook will finish at end of 2026 also

I think you'll find that Cody's almost non-existent remaining intestines make it impossible for him to "bulk up a bit." Therein lies the problem...

Fair enough it's business, I think the "three fullbacks in their salary cap, is Moneyball madness" is a bit over the top.
They offered him 85k and are trying to offload Sloan.
Cody is going and if they offload Sloan all of a sudden we are short a fullback.

Yes- an observation about your well-made points- The Dragons were rewarded with two players making the NSW Cup team of the year- Cody and Johah Glover- both now gone to other, stronger NRL teams who saw something in them when we deemed them expendable with low ball offers. The two coaches of those teams? -Robinson and Bennett.

Who do you trust to have made the best decisions? - two of the best coaches in the NRL or Flanno?

Gutherson is our captain and a good first-grade player. When we have a better fullback, he will make a great center.

Most importantly, we need a marquee prop for 2026 and beyond. We have a pack of great young forwards who need a leader:
Couchman Twins
Stewart
Tonga
Eagan
Halangahu
Liu
Nick T
