Found this on the NRL website. It's good news for the game- even if it's only a one-off at the moment

The retractable seating at Colonial Stadium will be moved in for the first time for Sunday's National Rugby League match between Melbourne and Brisbane.
The reconfiguration of the lower deck of seating will bring fans 20m closer to the action and almost up to the sidelines and goal lines.
It will be the only chance to see the stadium with its new look during the NRL season.
Eighth-placed Melbourne has named an unchanged team for the match against the injury-stricken Broncos.

so the stands will bring us 20 metres closer to the action, well that will mean the wings are still 30-40 metres away from the touchlines minimum, they say we will be on top of the action, they're kidding!!!!!

like usual i will watch the majority of the match on the big screen, the only place in the stadium which is viewer friendly is the southern end between the tryline and the dead ball line, not exactly the best place to watch a game from.

i know we have a luxurious stadium, but so is my lounge room minus the admission price, give us fans a true league ground to play in,say olympic park.

the storm have been flogging this game since the start of the season telling us how wonderful it will be to have the broncos in town plus a reconfigured stadium,i would have preferred the management to promote the next home game instead of putting all the eggs in one basket,it appears it will backfire as the storm are gone beyond recall in 2001 and the broncos are minus half there team.

They should have done this for the Storm vs Saints game because of the rare window of opotunity that saw no AFL games being played in Melbourne over the weekend (One on Friday night and a Saturday game in near by Geelong).

I think you being a bit harsh their Pepe. I think you will get a great view from the lower decks when you get them moved in. Just wait and see first.

What sort of crowd are they expecting for this pepe?? I hear that leah haywood and judith durhams daughter (or something like that) are going to be performing pre-game...They must be building it up, the novelty factor alone will hopefully ensure a 15-20000 crowd?? Or is that a bit 2 ambitious??

When the Storm thumped St Helens in the 2000 WCC at the JJB in Wigan, the Melbourne officials were very impressed with the stadium, and expressed an interest in building a similar type ofstadium in Melbourne. Whatever happened to that idea?

the storm would expect a crowd of 20k plus with the promotions etc, being a fan of the punt i will predict 16 923.

gav,

your guess is as good as mine as regards to a stadium replica of jjb,the kennett govt was giving the boot 18 months ago which would have set talks back, our sports minister now is justin madden ,the ex carlton ruckman which does'nt help .

he is being swayed by the aru in regards to a super 12 team here in melbourne presently,as usual it appears the nrl is just sitting back and twiddling it's fingers.

Now you've seen it Pepe, are you converted.

It was like being at a ground that was designed to watch and play Rugby League (or any other rectangle sport!

Awsome!!! (Almost worth the price you have to pay for chippies - and do without NZ hotdogs)

So it sounds like the move was a huge success. What I don't understand is why RL does not build it's own stadium in Sydney like the AFL did with Colonial. It would prove to be a great asset to our game and a great investment for the future of league.

unfortunatly i could'nt attend the bronco game,it came up very well on tv so i will apologise,i hope next season they move the stands in for at least half of our games, this appears unlikely with colonials schedule plus the costs associated with it.

we have a great run home over the next 5 rounds,we have a great chance to cement a top 6 spot if we are good enough,we must avoid 7th or 8 th spot at all costs as that will see us exit in week one,6th spot should give us a double chance.

Moving the stands in closer is a definite winner for the Storm. Apparently it costs $20-60,000 to do it but it's worth it for the atmosphere. The Storm faithful get right behind their team and with the roof shut, the sound must be pretty intimating for visiting teams.
