we're actually in good shape when comparing our performance after 14 rounds to each season since '99.

standings after round 14

1999 W 7 D - L 6 B 1 pts 16
2000 W 7 D - L 7 pts 14
2001 W 5 D 1 L 7 pts 11
2002 W 3 D 3 L 7 B 1 pts 11
2003 W 5 D - L 7 B 2 pts 14
2004 W 7 D - L 7 B - pts 14
2005 W 8 D - L 6 B - pts 16

not so bad.

Especially with those byes up the sleeve.
I understand that Saints are the only team who haven't had a bye yet.
All the other top eight teams have a bye. So when comparing us to the top eight field, we're really on 18 points in 5th position. A yes, for those who might be wondering, that puts us ahead of the Sharks. lol

Once again Brown proves that he is a more than capable coach.

Have a look at the Roosters or knights or Panthers or Bulldogs...what happens to them when they lose a couple quality players to other clubs or injuries...yet its been happening to Brown heaps and look how we are going.

I applaud Doust for sticking by him.

Brown and Doust are the future of this club just as much as the young gun players.

I think the fairest way to account for the distortion of the bye is probably to work out the win percentages rather than adding byes. Unfortunately, that puts us just behind the Sharks.

Broncos 84.62%
Eels 69.23%
Sea Eagles 69.23%
Cowboys 61.54%
Sharks 61.54%
Dragons 57.14%
Storm 53.85%
Roosters 50.00%
Raiders 50.00%
Warriors 46.15%
Wests Tigers 46.15%
Bulldogs 33.33%
Panthers 30.77%
Rabbitohs 23.08%
Knights 0.00%

Sure, but percentages are not worth two competition points. The teams ahead of Saints have an extra two points each courtesy of the bye.

Yeah I know. That means the current ladder is distorted. But simply adding or subtracting byes from teams also distorts the ladder. Arguably, converting the table to percentages is another distortion.

But I think percentages are the best method to overcome the fact that different teams have played a different number of games, which is the main distortion of the ladder that is a result of the byes.

Clear as mud....
