1.
2. Tahu
3. M Gidley (sort of injured)
4. Lyon
5. Sing
6. Barrett (could've played the finals...)
7. Johns (saw him at the beach with the neck brace... must be hurt)
13. Timmins (out of position, but he can play here)
12. N Hindmarsh (injury plagued year.. not sure about now)
11. B Kennedy (probably hurt)
10. Ryles (hurt)
9.
8. L Bailey (busted ear)

14. Tate
15.
16. Croker (was he a train-on? Well he actually really is injured)
17. Tallis (retired just as much as not going)

A couple of players from Canberra should've been on the list (namely Schifcofske for fullback), but regardless, it's a decent squad we won't be taking. A shame that the players have gone off this trip. Tony Butterfield should be ensuring to the NRL and the fans that something is being done about the end of season "injury" list.

Piss poor, NRL players. Who rules themselves out so long before a match?

I never knew that Matt Sing withdrew :?

I was just wondering, with so many players pulling out virtually due to injury, can fringe train-on squad members be included now we have so many players withdrawing? We are already missing a number of second rowers and centres as it is. I suppose the final squad is officially named next Monday, so it's not much of a concern.

Steve Menzies has also officially pulled out of the tour, but I'm not exactly sure as to the reason why.

I noticed in an article that Josh Hannay's name was omitted from the train-on squad list, & I haven't come across a source stating that he has officially pulled out from the tour, nor an explanation. It may very well be just a typographical error, but I'm not too sure.

Aside: astrogirl, good to hear from you again ;-)

The article below was what I was referring to prior, with Josh Hannay's omission in a more recent list :? Obviously now the list has diminished further, with the official withdrawals of Nathan Hindmarsh, Steve Menzies, Ben Kennedy & Brent Tate.

Mark Gasnier & Timana Tahu are both under injury clouds, but I'm assuming they are still in with a slight chance of making the squad, but on the balance of probabilities, it is highly unlikely. Has there been anything official in relation to Timana Tahu?

After the disappointing loss to Penrith yesterday, the NZ Warriors at least have something to smile about with the in form front rower being added to the train-on squad for Australia's end-of-season rugby league tour of England and France on Monday.

Villasanti was the only NZ Warrior named in the train-on squad following the club's season-ending 28-20 loss to Penrith at Telstra Stadium on Sunday.

Bulldogs Hazem El Masri, Brent Sherwin, Mark O'Meley, Steve Price and Willie Mason were also added after their 28-18 defeat at the hands of the Sydney Roosters on Saturday night.

Players named in the squad are:

Parramatta - Nathan Hindmarsh
St George Illawarra - Mark Gasnier
North Queensland - Matt Sing
Cronulla - Brett Kimmorley, Phil Bailey
Wests Tigers - John Skandalis
Manly - Steve Menzies
Newcastle - Ben Kennedy, Timana Tahu, Danny Buderus, Steve Simpson, Josh Perry
Brisbane - Gorden Tallis, Darren Lockyer, Shane Webcke, Brent Tate, Petero Civoniceva, Shaun Berrigan, Michael De Vere, Dane Carlaw
Canberra - Luke Davico, Ryan O'Hara
Melbourne - Robbie Kearns, Matt Orford, Matt Geyer

The final squad will be named next Monday after the NRL grand final on Sunday.

I heard that he had organised a trip to Europe with Chad Randall and asked selectors for their honest assessment on whether or not he would make the tour. He was told to take his holiday.

From the SMH website:

"Newcastle winger Timana Tahu and Canberra prop Ryan O'Hara yesterday joined the long list of players ruled out of the Kangaroo Tour through injury."

I think players are now starting to put their club in front of their country.

Good. The international game is ordinary at best anyway, and if players are coming into these games with existing injuries then it is pointless trying to play for no obvious gain.
The honour of being named in a side is probably worth more than playing. I'd argue that club football needs to be seen as a priority until (if ever) other countries catch up to Australia's standards in rugby league.

Until then, I'll be watching our rugby union boys play international matches - their club competition may be dead, and Super 12's not as big as Origin, but their international game is far superior.

When are the releasing his x-rays. :)

When Greenhill, Brown & Tallis had injuries to their necks, they showed their x-rays on TV. :p

Chook, the best thing that could happen to the International game is a whooping from the Poms this tour. Wake up these egocentric players into what they should be doing... playing. It happened to the US basketball team (if there was an unbeatable team surely it must have been them), and it will happen to us soon enough.

PJ Marsh will be lucky to play again next year let alone next month. His neck is about as strong as a crushed bag of Smith's Crisps.

Fitzgibbon will probably pull out. An injury riddled year and he was still going off as late as last week. If Girdler had any chance he might have muffed it with the calf injury and Minicello probably lost all chance he had of making the squad. Wesser by plenty.

Mabe Girds will get a recall to the Test side?

I don't think Girds will be playing any footy for awhile he hobbled off in the second half last night.
