Concussion Rule

Messages

Starting to see a trend in the NRL for a possible misuse of the concussion rule whereby key players (predominantly fullbacks) are being targeted when going for the football. Inglis and Tedesco in consecutive weeks. Going in hard, if the player gets injured happy days up-to 15 mins off the paddock. Knees to the head? Accidental? Can see this being rule manipulated progressively every week.

Dont agree. There is no conspiracy here. Football is a contact sport and accidents happen

I totally agree with OP.

What is to stop grubby players "accidentally" putting a high shot on opposing players fullbacks. 95% of the time. if it looks bad it will go on report and there will be a penalty....thats it.
One team loses their fullback and the other team continue playing with their full squad.

It will become a trend

What is to stop grubby players hitting fullbacks?

Uuummmm......a suspension.
Maybe a send off.
Maybe a penalty then the fullback bounces to his feet.

The Inglis concussion was a freak accident and a solid tackle as he was falling to the ground.

That just leaves Tedesco high shots. Have to disagree it is or will become a tactic.

Your missing my point. Suspension occurs after the game has finished. If an important game is on the line and you could afford a penalty if there was a strong chance you could knock the opposing player (the one who is wrecking havoc for your team) out and he gets sent off...a couple weeks suspension might be worth the risk for grubby players.

I'm not saying they go into the game with that tactic but once the blood starts boiling and the frustration of potentially losing sets in...you never know

you have to be heavy handed enough on both sides of the argument.

If a player commits an offence that KO's a player, that player should be sin binned, penalised and put on report. The binning should also count as an interchange for the offender.

The KO'd player, to prevent diving, should be forced to not play any football for 10 days which means they'd miss the next weeks game. They should also be taken from the field and not be allowed to return.

this is a plan I mentioned in an article a while ago which I think would work and has the players safety in mind.

I think a stage between send off and on report is required. For some foul play I think the ref should be able to order a player off the field, and rule that they may be replaced, but cannot return for the rest of the game.

Its not a punishment though.

If we're running with crazy hypotheticals, then you could select a joe bog average bloke to start in the 13 to go out and take out the oppositions star player, get marched and get replaced so it remains 13 on 13. It won't affect the team he plays for because he's not that good anyway, but it renders the victims of his action without their star player.

And this could turn into a tit for tat piece of crap.

This is why marching the player is a better idea, because he needs to know that his actions have hurt his whole side as well.

Not going to be pretty to watch this weekend. Most of those injuries we can work around and survive without, But Simona, Tedesco and Fulton hurt the most
