Yeah they grab what quality they can. What plethora of talent are they forgoing in getting cotric?
The plethora of talent that their recruitment team should be identifying that will fill the gaps in their roster.

The young half from Penrith that is stuck behind Cleary would be a good start. Just don’t get into a golden point game with him. Play him alongside Foran but make him the general.

I’d also be looking at a couple of the young fullbacks that have been filling in for the panthers.

Then (and I hate saying this as a dragons fan) throw the farm at the best 9 in the game that isn’t currebtly being picked to start. Make him captain. Build your club around him.

Anyone that watched the Kerrod Holland and Marcelo Montoya derpfest today and still thinks we shouldn't have forked out for Cotric needs examining

The rebuild started with skd and buhrer the year before.

haha you go and ask knights fans how they feel about those signings
The rebuild started with Ponga and to a lesser degree Pearce. They weren’t doing shit with that team until they got those two

Buhrer brought a lot of off-field professionalism and an older head, from a "successful (at the time) club". This has value in a rebuild.

His on-field performance was certainly underwhelming though.

It’s a wild example to use!
Newcastle did the exact right thing

The y went after Pearce and Ponga, the young hooker, guys like Watson (and paid various levels of tax on them all, but that’s what you do for spine players you think can change the direction of your club) and the shopped the bargain bin for guys like Edrick and Mann and leaned on their development players

they threw resources at the spine like you wouldn’t believe, and once they hit on Pearce and Ponga they began splashing out for known proven commodities to improve their team around them like Raimen (failed), Klemmer and now Friz

the knights have given the dogs the blueprint to get out of this mess and they’re not interested

Haha. If reports are to be believed they have offered Foran an extension. The very definition of madness.

How did you feel when Raiders bagged leilua. They had finished 15th the previous season and could have done with a new spine. Do you think it was a waste of money then?

This is a pretty poor example as We did have a new spine. Jack moved to fullback with Hodgson, Austin joining and Sezer was coming in 2016. All of that was done before we signed Leilua.

Cotric is a good pickup. If they have in excess of 3 million to spend he is hardly breaking the bank. They can only sign who's available, so any biggish name is a good start. He could make a difference in attracting a few other decent players. They arent going to be fixing the squad in one season, so grab whats available & just make sure not to blow the bank on long contracts while waiting for the crucial signing. Frontload the f**k out of Cotric & whoever they can next year to keep some ammo for 2022.

I would be going after Tamou for the 3 years he wants, from what I've heard the dollars will be fair, but he wants 3 years. Then I'd go after one of the young props from the Sharks, Hamilin-Uele, Rudolph, Hunt or Talakei all look promising.

They are supposed to be retaining Foran at a much reduced price. Everyone is saying Burton, but we wont be letting him go. I'd be having a crack at Dean Blore. He has too many ahead of him at Penrith, will be cheap, decent prospect to learn from Foran & the added bonus of maybe getting Shawn from the Tigers if he doesnt get a run. If he is a bust then then in a year or 2 go for whichever half is still not getting a run at Penrith.

It's going to be 2023 before Dogs will be realistically challenging for finals, be patient & build a team slowly until then.

And remember stick targeted tedesco and ennis before that

One thing I'll say in the bulldogs defence is I believe signing Sisa Waqa was pretty important to show we werent a complete basket case after Stick failed to retain Milford (thank God on current form) and recruit tedesco and ennis but I don't think we really broke the bank there

The 2 players I'd consider offering "too good to refuse" money to is either McInnis or Brandon Smith. Pressuring the Dragons on McInnis could see them offer Hunt instead with them paying some freight. He would be a good get at the right price to play hooker.

Give Brandon Smith an offer he cannot refuse, Canterbury.

Yeah, Lafai probably wouldnt have been high on my list of priority signings. I imagine he was cheap though.

Canberra have played it very well imo. They wanted to keep him and offered him what he's worth and they could afford. Cotric chose to take up the bigger dollars which is understandable.

Raiders have a very solid spine locked and to put pieces around that you can't be throwing big money for backs. Wingers are the most replaceable position in the game with a new superstar or beast from Fiji appearing every 5min. Milk them for all they have on their rookie contract then replace with a new one once they start asking for the big dollars
See Melbourne Storm for how to do this competently.
