I'm not under the illusion that Toby Sexton is this great halfback but from what I've seen of the Dogs this year he kicks well, he playmakes well and he's currently keeping Lachie "Wonderkid" Galvin on the bench at the Dogs.

Surely with all that in mind he's worthy of a spot at the Dragons, Eels, Rabbitohs, Tigers or Titans. Really strange that he's Catalans bound unless they gave him a really fat salary but the Super League hasn't traditionally known to be like that to my knowledge.

Sexton would be the perfect 7 playing with Brandon Smith, Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell.

But we have our $600k halfback and he's struggling in reserve grade. Sigh.

Like Cleary, will never be rep quality but stick him in a stacked side with a strong system and he’ll do what needs to be done, better than Galvin would.

Sounds like Ryles hedging his bets. He knows he doesn't want Matto (who may also have a cooked back) but also knows he will have to pay out every single cent. And there's no point doing that because you can't replace him, probably, with that payout still on the cap. So you keep him on the books technically to get him out of here for now and then see what comes of it
