Cook Islands def Country Rugby League 26-22
Cook Islands were strong early and looked like slicing up CRL, but the country boys came home strong in the second half and were somewhat unlucky not to have snatched a victory
Cook Islands included Zeb Taia (Capt.) (Knights), Ben Taia (Wenty), Kieth Lulia (Knights), Alex Glenn (Broncos), Geoff Daniela (Tigers), TK Amosa (Eels U/20s), Neccrom (insert last name) (Warriors U/20s) to name a few.......
Biggest name in CRL was their Captain Grant Wooden who played a bit of NRL, possibly with St. George or Canberra I think????
Was a great afternoon with a decent crowd - it had been pouring rain and bitterly cold and windy for north-west NSW in October!!
Met some of the CI boys at the end of the game, including chilling out with Zeb Taia and Mau George - the only guy actually listed as being from CI and living there........in fact they all signed a poster from my daughter and got a photo with her and my partner/me, which happened very quickly and we didn't even get to take one ourselves ha ha
I went up to TK Amosa and said hey TK, good game, go Parra.......and he shook my hand but stared at me a bit blankly, he was either a bit happy with himself or nearly crapped his dacks that someone knew who the hell he was ha ha ha - or he was disillusioned with Parra, is he still signed with us!!!?
he didn't have a huge impact on the game and seemed to be letting Alex Glenn - who was playing halfback - or Zeb Taia (lock) call most of the shots in attack.....he made a good intercept on their 5m line, but got run down about 10m out from CRL's line, but they scored from that anyway.....he was very solid in defence though
CI were a very, very big side.....wow!
