Corey Norman

You know the funniest thing about this, if a regular person had been found with a small amount of drugs on them while lining up to get into a club/casino (From what I've seen/read he didn't have much on him) the bouncers would just confiscate them, either smash them or chuck them in the bin, and either turn you away, or just wave you in to the club/casino..

But because this is Corey Norman, the cops want to talk to him for what is probably an amount that would justify maybe a bond and/or a fine, especially for a first time offender.

You gotta love player agents.... 2-3 weeks ago there's all sorts of talk about how there are several clubs intersted in Norman and who can probably offer more than Parra... obviously info leaked by his mgmt to get Parra to cough up more dough...

Nek Minnit - Corey gets charged with possession and his mgmt now coming out saying "We're confident we can still reach an agreement with Parra for next year"... guessing all those "other" clubs are no longer interested!!

So transparent

I bet you $1 he'll plead guilty and get a section 10. Meaning that the judge will wave his/her finger at him and no conviction will be recorded.

The roosters hooker got charged with possession at Coogee a few years back and IIRC got a good behaviour bond. Did the integrity unit suspend him ?

EDIT: it was only for Valium.

So is there any precedent of a current NRL player being charged with possession of a prohibited drug (non trafficable amount) ?

So the papers found a Jarryd Hayne link in all this too...

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/...ns-star-casino-drug-bust-20160526-gp4xkz.html

Strange to think that it will be coming up two years (in October) since Jarryd stepped away, to a non-WADA compliant sporting code.

So this article suggests that Norman had the pills confiscated by the Star City Security. Surely that isn't true?

Unless the police was standing next to the Security Guard at the time he confiscated the item, then it will be difficult...actually, near impossible, for the prosecution to prove the continuity of evidence in this instance.

Yeah, exactly, this screams storm in a teacup to me.

It's the same with Foz's "Gambling problem"...

If he was an AFL player they'd give him a pair of glow sticks and tell him to carry on...

This was Ben Cousins walking out of his first strike disciplinary hearing a few years back...

When Cousins was charged with possession he was sacked and was banned by the AFL for 12 months. His previous behaviour did not attract police attention AFAIK.

All true. I also expect the police facts sheet will get leaked to the Daily Telegraph prior to the first court date.

This is true, the only thing I can think of is that the Casino may find drugs during these searches a lot (I guess you have to submit to a search to get in? I would never let some security thug search me) and have a solid protocol with the local police in terms of handling the drugs and the cops getting down there fast etc. Also he probably made admissions to the police or one of his mates rat'ed on him.

It's funny, I was thinking the exact same thing. Seeing as how the police weren't present, any lawyer worth his salt could argue that no one can undoubtedly prove a) that Corey was in possession of the drugs and b) that what they confiscated was actually drugs at all.

Although they are saying that there is video evidence of them taking them from him, so there's that. But that still doesn't prove that the bouncers didn't switch the drugs before handing them to the police, they could be manly fans or something...

Especially if you had illegal drugs on you.

It's funny though, they don't pat you down looking for drugs, they're actually looking for weapons.

Most nightclubs have a search condition of entry, you have to empty your pockets, and have a metal detector wand and pat down search to look for weapons, if they happen to find drugs on you, well you're very dumb and have no idea how to hide drugs on your person.

i.e. Corey was very dumb.

I was busted with 10 (which I believe is in the category of trafficking?) when I was about 21. I wasn't selling them or any intention I just used to take a lot and as it was a Friday night it was that night and the next nights stash. I used to carry them all with me as id never been searched before and I was a regular at that club too.

Scariest night of my life, I could have been charged and thrown in jail. I knew people who went to jail for less than that at the time as you only avoided jail time if you could afford a good barrister and I had zero money.

I got lucky and they just pretty much scared the f**k out of me for about 30 mins and kicked me out for the rest of that night. I was back there the week after and just left them in my car from then on for the next 7 or 8 years.

I've been told he'll be fine (not an official source and please take with a pinch of salt)
